Intel Optane M10 stuck in "preparing system" when I try to disable it.

I have an HP Envy 17-ce1030nr with a DSCMX250 2GB i5-10210UOK19C2

motherboard running Windows 11 and an Intel Optane 16 GB M10 M.2 memory module.  When I use the Intel Optane Memory and Management tool to disable the Optane memory, it says "Preparing System"  and shows a clock-like set of dots spinning with 0%.  I let it go for over 8 hours and it still showed 0%.   I've also tried to disable it from the BIOS and have the same result.  In the BIOS under the UEFI Configuration, it displays SAFE next to the Optane M10 status.  Please help.  I need to disable the Optane M10 to replace it with an SDD.

Thank you

Hello, Sieb21.

Thank you for posting on the Intel Community Support forums.

I'm sorry to hear about this problem while trying to disable the Optane Memory; I will be assisting you with this.

Knowing that you already tried to disable it using both methods (BIOS and GUI), the best option may be to contact HP for assistance, especially if the system came with Optane Memory preinstalled from the factory, or just perform a clean Windows installation on the new SSD that you are going to use.

Another option would be to update the Intel RST driver, to check if you can disable the Optane Memory in case the driver is the problem.

Please keep in mind that we recommend having a backup of your information before performing any type of hardware/software changes in case the system becomes unable to boot.

I see this is a 10th gen platform, so you may try the following:

- RST 18.7: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19512/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-installation-software-with-intel-optane-memory-10th-and-11th-gen-platforms.html

- RST 19.5*: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/720755/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-installation-software-with-intel-optane-memory-11th-up-to-13th-gen-platforms.html

*Note: The 19.5 indicates it is for 11th~13th gen systems, but you can try this one to check if it allows you to disable the Optane.

Please let me know if this works for you, and I will follow up on September 1st in case you need additional time.

Regards,

Hello, Sieb21.

Good day,

This message is to inform you about the closure of this support thread since there was no response from your part after trying to follow up.

I previously suggested that you can try updating the RST driver before disabling Optane from the GUI, but the best option may be to contact the system manufacturer of assistance if you continue having problems, taking into consideration that you even tried to disable it form the system BIOS.

The thread will be closed right now, and it will no longer be monitored by Intel support, but if you require any type of assistance from Intel in the future, just open a new thread, or contact us using any of the available support methods:
