Intel Optane M10

I just bought a WD Black NVMe M.2 2280 500GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) and I want to install a clean install of windows 10 on it as use that as my boot drive and use my old 1 terabyte HDD as a second drive for storage for games and movies and what-not. Can I use the new Intel Optane M10 series 32 gb module to speed up my secondary HDD drive, would it install and work correctly and would it even be worth it? I would take the OS windows 10 system partition off the old drive first. Would it make my games stored on the secondary HDD load and play faster and better? Thanks in advance for any and all answers.

Hi kevinleroy,

Thank you for posting in the Intel® communities.

Yes, you can accelerate a secondary drive in your system as long as the system meets the requirements. The secondary drive will be accelerated and you will notice an increase in its performance.

The requirements for secondary drive acceleration are available here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000027987/memory-and-storage.html?_ga=2.257165003.1989526768.1541434559-1716436649.1536075640 Secondary/Data SATA Drive Acceleration with Intel® Optane™ Memory. Please make sure your system meets the requirements, otherwise secondary drive acceleration won't be possible.

I also recommend you to check the following guide in order to know how you should setup your system and the system drive for the module to work properly: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000023989/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory.html?_ga=2.251011718.1086953970.1541434635-1716436649.1536075640 Installation Guide for Intel® Optane™ Memory

Additional information can be also found in the following article: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000024018/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory.html?_ga=2.40372002.1608806116.1541434752-1716436649.1536075640 Frequently Asked Questions for Intel® Optane™ Memory

I hope this information answers your concern. If there is anything else I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask.

Have a nice day.
