While all the review Hades Canyon NUC's appear to be loaded with a 118GB Optane 800P plus "another" M.2 drive, in all cases the Optane drive is the boot drive.
My plan is to run VMWare Workstation on my new NUC with a number of VM's that I use for demos in various configurations. Three of my VM's love to run with an Optane Cache in operation. I was hoping that I could install a cheapish 2TB M.2 SATA SSD as my primary drive and run a 118GB Optane 800P as my secondary drive as a pure cache drive (like I have done on larger desktops). To do this, I will need to run the latest version of Intel RST. The problem is that I'm not sure if the NUC is a qualified platform for RST v18.104.22.1686. Is anybody here able to confirm this configuration?

By contrast, if you read these links it suggests that the full raft of Optane support is available for this new NUC.

I also notice that ALL the NUC Hades Canyon reviews that I have read all contain Optane 800P drives that were supplied by Intel. Why would Intel promote 800P Optane inside this new NUC if its not fully supported?
Could we have a definitive answer on this please?

The drive is fully supported on Intel NUC8i7HVK as it comes preinstalled with it. There seems to be a confusion between Intel Optane technologies. The articles you're referring to are for https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/optane-memory.html Intel® Optane™ Memory, a device intended for system acceleration currently available on 16GB and 32GB only.

It works as a regular SSD, but takes advantage of the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/intel-optane-technology.html Intel Optane Technology properties.

I purchased an Intel NUC8i7HVK with a 120GB M.2. (non-Optane) together with an M.2. 32-GB Optane module. The 120GB boot drive is in position 1 and the Optane module is in M.2. position 2.
After installing the Optane drivers, Windows reported that the 32-GB Optane memory could not be enabled, because my main boot drive does not need the help that this memory would provide. I discovered that if I had an older HDD as the boot drive, then the Optane memory would significantly improve performance.
For these reasons, my recommendation is "Buyer Beware" with regards an Intel NUC8i7HVK and Intel Optane Memory Modules (16 or 32 GB).
I recently received my NUC NUC8i7HVK . I do have a 1tb M.2 Boot drive and I did purchase the 32gig optane for the 2nd m.2 slot assuming I could use Optane Cache. However I get a different message when I try to set it up.. I get
I followed a how to video to make sure the settings were correct. The system does see both the 1tb and the OPTANE 32gig .
I am using the NUC to post this message. Everything works great and I am not sure what I am doing wrong? or does the new NUC not
support OPTANE CACHE? or is the M.2 Boot drive already fast and will not receive any help?
