Is It Worth Upgrading to a PCI Express SSD on Older Systems?

I’m thinking about upgrading to a PCI Express SSD to boost performance, especially for boot times and heavy applications. My current system is a bit older, and I’m not sure if it will support booting from PCIe storage or if I’ll need to do any workarounds. Has anyone here made this kind of upgrade? Was the speed difference noticeable, and were there any compatibility issues I should watch out for?

Yeah, I upgraded to a PCIe SSD on my older system and the speed boost was huge—boot times and app loading were way faster. Just make sure your motherboard supports NVMe booting (check BIOS settings and firmware updates). I had to update my BIOS to get it to work, but it was worth it.

Hi @alex-1092

In order to get better information about your system, please download the Intel System Support Utility (SSU). Run the SSU scan (check "Everything") and save the results. The .txt file with the results please attach to your post.

If you are thing nvme ssd, does your older system support boot from nvme?  Most do not.

you did not specify what OS, or your hardware.  Without that info, who know?
