Does anyone have some benchmarking numbers of the gains in compilation times based on the following PC upgrades in %. It will be helpful if at least I know which upgrade make the most difference.
Quartus 9.1 or later Core I7 vs EXXXX Duo WIN 7 64 or XP WIN 7 64 vs WIN XP 4 GIG RAM vs 8 GIG on WIN 7 64 Duo Core vs Quad core Exxxx (XP or WIN 7 64) Hard drive for OS vs SSD drive for OS (Intel X25) Project on a network share vs local drive I am ready to order a new machine and I want to balance cost vs performance. thanks in advanceLink Copied

Core I7 vs EXXXX Duo WIN 7 64 or XP I think those two are the most important ones.- Mark as New

My experience has been that extra CPU cores don't help much. Instead, higher memory bandwidth and larger cache sizes seem more important.
One thing I have wondered but never tested is if Linux vs Windows makes any significant difference in compile times.
