Hi, I working with maintenance of old industrial equipment and many times need to upgrade FPGA (7000S serie).

To migret Altera design and programing from win.NT to windows 2000 or XP and maintain compability, I need to start first with max+plus 10.0 that still allwes using the byte blaster MV for in circuit (PCB) upgrading. Could please any one tell me vhere on Altera download/support sites place could I find that version?

Dear Dave,

Many thanks for VERY usefully information. We shall try out downloaded files and let community knows about our progress. I just wonder if we need to acquire a new license for downloader files or we may use our old purchased hardware (parallel port device) to go ahead and install & use the 10.0 version both for graphical design and device programming via byte byte blasters NV?? Any useful information will be highly appreciated.

Assuming you still have a computer old enough to have a parallel port, then the MAX+PLUSII installer should have the drivers for the dongle. The dongles were never used to license a specific version of MAX+PLUSII, so long as you have a license file that matches the dongle, it should work fine. (That is my guess anyway!).

Dear Dave,

May thank again, you are very kind and have lot of knowledge about Altera. Yes indeed, I have an old computer (Win 2000) with parallel pot and legal brought dongle about year 1997 when started to use intensively Altera FPGA for industrial equipment PLC.

As I told, I mostly replace the TTL ad CMOS old fashion devices by FPGA maintaining same schematics configuration by FPGA, thus I need access to Graphical design on MAX plus ii SW and of course parallel port for byte blaster JTAG in circuit programmer.

Surprisingly when I installed from ALTERA server new SW(10.0 or higher) it doesn't recognize the dongle or when it does gives only limited functional access/ features i.e. not graphical or compiling possibility. I don't know how shall install authorization file for my dongle in the new installed SW to get all functionality.

Please sorry for such long email, maybe you my give an hint to go around that problem.

Hi,

Finaly I could manage to download Maxplus2 v10.2 and make it run on Win XP. Downloading a licence for individual use was enough to give the rights to use downloaded Alreta SW. Unfortunately only the dongle doesn't allow to run any Altera SW dovnloaded from Alera support despite it's ID is recognized on on"System Information" but you do not have any posibility to use your existing authorisation code to activate the downloaded SW.

Now I have to address another question toward Community: where can I find the ByteBlasterMV drivers to actvate the parallel port (Win XP) for programing devices via JTAG. I tried everywhere on Altere support site but I canoot find it. Is anybody that have some experience with or could help me?

Answer appreciated,

Ion

I vaguely recall the dongles needing an additional driver, i.e., the "Sentinel Driver" ... yep, that search term showed up the Altera page ...

Once you have the driver installed (which it may be already), you need to use MAX+Plus II to setup the path to your license.dat file. I cannot remember where in the GUI that option is though :)

I doubt the format for Quartus authorization codes is identical to those used for MAX+Plus II.

They're usually in the quartus/drivers folder. It looks like this page has setup details.

Hi Dave,

May thanks indeed, it seems that Setinel driers are already embedded into Maxplus II 10.2 package and Win XP allows automate installing of these, but still needs to install drivers via control panel for JTAG byte blaster parallel port to make everything work fine. At this point I solved my problem and hopefully the license I got from Altera via internet will work not only temporarily (as evaluation).
