Intel does provide version compatibility info in Quartus Software and Device Support release notes.

I found this info through Mentor support.

Mentor/Siemens/whatever doesn't do versions of ModelSim that are 'compatible'. It's just ModelSim/Questa/whatever. The cheaper or OEM versions have design size limits, or are restricted to 32-bit systems.

You can download the ModelSim Intel Starter versions from the Intel website or the ModelSim Intel Standard version 10.5c. These versions are customized for Intel(Altera) FPGAs and CPLDs and come with the device libraries pre-compiled.

If using the standard ModelSim versions from MentorGraphics, you can use any version 10.1 - 10.7c. You will have to manually compile all FPGA and CPLD device libraries for ModelSim in order to do a design simulation.

Intel is currently providing Modelsim starter edition v10.6c. I am using Modelsim DE and was initially using v10.7b but ran into compilation issues. So the FAE asked me to go to v10.6e. But recently I was told that Intel was still at 10.5b. That kind of looked confusing info and hence am checking.
