Hi,
I just installed the Quartus II 12.0 software on my Xubuntu 12.04 Linux system. The USB Blaster and so on works fine. But there is a problem with the tutorials in quartus 2 software! I can't properly link quartus II to firefox or any other browser in order to be used for interactive tutorial and getting started tutorial e.g.? In option -> internet connectivity I enterd this link to firefox /usr/bin/firefox but nothing happens when I try to to start a tutorial afterwards? What am I doing wrong?Link Copied

Hi,
maybe Quartus doesn't have the right to access to /usr/bin. Launch Quartus as super user and tell us if you still have this problem. Regards- Mark as New

I already launched Quartus with a "sudo" (gksudo) !!!
If I start it without root-rights no changes in preferences, path, etc. will be saved for the next Quartus session! That's what I forgot to mention... sorry! problem with internet connectivity/tutorials still exists! kind regards- Mark as New

I just realized that I even cannot start the pdf tutorials from
the help menu. So this can't be browser related? Or am I wrong?- Mark as New

--- Quote Start --- I even tried chromium and it didn't work, too! --- Quote End --- Apparently, it does not work well with Chrome. --- Quote Start --- I just realized that I even cannot start the pdf tutorials from the help menu. --- Quote End --- The PDF Tutorials from the help menu are opened in the web browser specified in Quartus (Tools/Licence Setup/Internet Connectivity). What happens if you lauch /usr/bin/firefox? (maybe the symbolic link does not point to the right place, or does not exist) Verify once again that /usr/bin/firefox is the web browser of Quartus.

So the symbolic link should be set correctly?!

ok I just tried to use some alternative browsers!
Using "konqueror" or "epiphany" doesn't seem to solve the problem. Maybe it is helpful to mention my quartus install path? it's /opt/altera/quartus/ don't know if that's a problem? maybe the resources that quartus tries to open using the specific browser are placed at a different path? if so what is the correct path and how to change it? kind regards- Mark as New

--- Quote Start --- maybe the resources that quartus tries to open using the specific browser are placed at a different path? --- Quote End --- I think this is the problem. When I lauch Help/PDF Tutorials/PDF Tutorial for VHDL users, in Quartus, it opens firefox and the address is "file:///c:/altera/11.1/quartus/common/help/tutorial_quartusii_intro_vhdl.pdf". Then, verify if this file is in the same path "[...]/quartus/common/help"

I put a bad path for the web browser and I got an internal error with the shutdown of Quartus.
And I think of another thing: my firefox under Ubuntu can't open a PDF, it returns the file to Acrobat Reader (because I didn't install a pdf plugin for firefox). See if firefox can open a pdf. If these solutions don't work, put the path of the pdf reader of Xubuntu in the web browser field.- Mark as New

no it doesn't work even when I put my pdf reader (okular) path directly into quartus it does not work at all!
My workaround is : some direct links to the folders respectively to the html-file to start video tutorial or pdf tutorial comfortably by clicking on desktop shortcuts! The rest of quartus works fine afaik. So I can start work now or tomorrow because it's too hot here ;)
