U-Boot Failure on DE1-SoC Board, stopping at "Starting kernel ..."

Hello,

I'm wondering if this question fits into this thread.

I'm trying to use lubuntu OS at DE1-SoC board, through HPS.

I was well using the device for a few months, but recently I cannot boot the device properly.

The error log from the serial terminal is as follows:

DE1-SoC_uboot_err.png

It seems that the above log doesn't contain enough information.

So my question is...

1) If this situation is quite common, is there any suggestion to properly boot the device?

2) How can I debug this error, with a detailed error log?

Thank you for reading these discursive questions.

Hi 서박사,

I think high chance that your Linux kernel files are corrupted. Can you try to use back the default GSRD files to try boot up your Linux kernel again?

Link to the GSRD release files: https://releases.rocketboards.org/release/

Thanks.

Aik Eu

Hello Aik, thank you for your prompt reply.

I've replaced soc_system.rbf file with the default GSRD file with the latest version but still got the same message.

(In addition, altera_load function fails!)

I'll try to make a new booting disk using the past releases (u-boot-cyclone5.img) and let you know about the results.

After replacing zImage file rather than .rbf file, I could successfully boot the device

(It might be obvious since .rbf file only contains the FPGA programming data and zImage contains Linux kernel data...)

Thank you for your suggestion!

Hi 서박사,

Good to know that you can boot the device successfully.

I will close this thread for now.

Thanks.
