AC coupling cap location PCIe

Section 6.11.1 Idaville LCC PDG

"The AC coupling capacitors should be placed reasonably close
to the transmitter for the PCIe interface for test purposes. This rule is based on the
PCIe specification, but it typically does not matter where the capacitors are placed.
Placing them near the transmitter gives a convenient point to measure the transmitter
output."

We have a design constraint that makes it more desirable for the AC caps to be closer to the receive end of the transmission line than the transmit driver.  Placement was at the receive end of the PCIe pair in our previous generation board as well and we did not have an SI problem.

The text in the PDG states, "typically does not matter where capacitors are placed".  Should we be concerned if the caps are closer to the receive end than the transmit end?
