S2400SC beep error

When I power up my server, I only get a six short beep alert (repeated), then my system hangs. I can not enter the BIOS, nor does the OS launch. What does the error mean? And how do I correct it?

According to the TPS, there is no POST Error Beep Code that utilizes 6 beeps. I wonder if what you are hearing is two sets of 3 beeps with a slight pause between the sets. This would be an indication that a Memory Error has occurred.

Near center across the back edge of the board, there are two sets of 4 LEDs, one set green (lower digit) and the other amber (upper digit), that provide the two digits of the POST Progress Code, which indicate where in the POST process the problem was detected. There is a table in the TPS that details what these LEDs mean.

Hope this helps,

P.S. To simplify things (i.e., avoid the complexity of quickly finding anything on the Intel site), I have attached the TPS document.

Hi there,

Yes, I thought of this and replaced the DIMMs to ensure they were all working correctly. Also, there is no gap with the beep soundings. 6 beeps, with no gaps between them, followed by another six beeps. When I begin the startup I get a six beep, followed by six beeps. the entire system then restarts after 5 minutes (repeatedly). The startup screen is as attached, with Screen display with flashing space icon at the bottom left corner.Screen display with flashing space icon at the bottom left corner.

To add, I've tried removing all the added USB connections, and the cards (both SAS adapters), as well as the DIMMs one by one, to ensure they were working correctly. nothing seemed to work. I've also tried  reseating both CPUs (I replaced the thermal compound too), but still get the sand six beeps (no gap detected). At this point I'm more than a little confused.

What about the POST Code display? What is it saying?

As I read it, it's showing as LSB, -, 3, 4, 5, 6, -, MSB. I've looked in the manual but that code doesn't show up.

5 should read 6 (busy with a medical issue, sorry).

So, the POST Code is 11011011b (DBh) - which is, as you said, NOT a detailed POST Code. Going back to the various POST Code tables I have from my BIOS days, I don't see this value in any version.

[Aside: Did you notice that, in the manual, the bit values for the E0h-E3h POST Codes are actually for D0h-D3h? 1101b is Dh. Eh is 1110b. The problem is, there is no way to know if this was supposed to actually be E0h-E4h (the bit codes in the table are wrong) or D0h-D3h (the hex values in the table are wrong).]

So, we have unknown Beep Code and unknown POST Code. This has moved beyond my ken. We need @intel to do some digging into this issue...

Sorry I couldn't have done more,

Hi Scott,

Not your fault, you've been very helpful. Many thanks.

As for the issues in the manual, I thought it was my lack of understanding, rather than anything else. I'm on a VERY limited income, and I'm just learning about servers (I'm a PC man, mostly), so I'm learning this as fast as I can.
