AMT and AX200NGW wifi cards

Hello, we started using a new wifi card in our NUC7i7 machines and AMT is not recognizing it.  The cards are AX200NGW.  After provisioning and connecting to AMT over a wired connection, if we look at "Network Settings" it just doesn't show a wireless interface.  I'm going to continue testing and researching, but wanted to put this question out there to see what i might be missing.

Also, I had a question about how to update the AMT version on a NUC7i7.  I've seen the references that you must get it from the manufacturer, but if i look on the download page for this device on the Intel site, i don't see it.  Or maybe i just don't know what I'm looking for.

I'm basically wondering if my AX200 wifi card problem is an AMT version issue.  Our NUCs are AMT v11, and I think the wifi card is AMT v12?  Does that make them incompatible? Is there a site or portal i can go to for getting info on AMT versions for devices and compatibility?  Thanks in advance.

Was there a WiFi card is the NUC previously? If so, was it working with AMT?

Honestly, I do not remember AMT having support for wireless.

Hello AMTandIME,

Welcome back to the Intel community

Did you install this AX200 wifi card before or after provisioning the system for AMT management? I think you want to provision the system over wifi the first time and then switch back to wired. This because provisioning over wifi will put the system into client control mode for security reasons.

This AX200 wifi card seems to be AMT capable as per ark.intel.com: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/189347/intel-wi-fi-6-ax200-gig.html

About the AMT update for your NUC you usually want to look for the Management Engine (ME) firmware. But for a more accurate answer you better submit a topic under the NUC community: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-NUCs/ct-p/intel-nuc

We have used an older "ac" wifi card in these same NUCs in the past and wifi has worked correctly.  In the past we've just provisioned AMT in ACM using a USB stick, and then apply specific settings to the wifi config to enable it.  The cards are always installed before provisioning AMT.

I don't see specific version information about AMT on the ARK site (i do see where it says it is vPro capable).  If the wifi card was in fact AMT v12, would it work with a NUC that was AMT v11?  I didn't know if these versions needed to be lined up.

Thanks for the help.

Hello AMTandIME,

In ark if you go down to Advanced Technologies you will see Supported Under Intel vPro® Technology: Yes. But it does not specify which version of AMT is supported by the card so we can only assume that it is supported on all the available versions of AMT.

The provisioning method you explain is the usual in order to have wifi working with AMT. Probably I could suggest you to try provisioning the NUC through the MEBx utility. In case is still not working we can elevate this question to our senior support for compatibility issues.

We are suspicious that this wifi card is not compatible with our NUC7s, but we have also tried it with a couple NUC8V5PNK and have experienced the same behavior.  The problem with these NUC8s is that we cannot get into the MEBx to provision from there.  The CTRL-P option is never offered during boot and we can't find a way to get in there.  Can you offer any insight as to what the problem might be there?  We have updated the BIOS and everything should be current.

Thanks for all your help.

Hello AMTandIME,

Since this issue is turning to be more NUC related than AMT related let me engage our NUC team so you can address these POST prompts and compatibility issues with them. Unfortunately I am not that familiar with NUCs and what I can offer is limited. They should be able to assist you better.

Once they have clarified these issues ask them to sent the case back to AMT support so we can continue troubleshooting the AMT part.

AMTandIME, Thank you very much for providing the SSU report.

In reference to your question, just to let you know, when you install a new Wireless card in the Intel® NUC that is what it is called "Wireless Integration", and the thing about that is that there are a lot of factors that come into play, like for example compatibility, drivers and antennas, in those cases unless the Wireless card is fully compatible with the Intel® NUC some of the features will not be available for use, in the following links you will find further details about the "Wireless Integration":

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005687/network-and-i-o/wireless-networki...

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005846/network-and-i-o/wireless.html

Now, the Intel® NUC 8 Pro Kit NUC8v5PNK works with Intel® Core™ i5-8365U Processor, that processor supports Vpro and AMT as you can see in the link below, that is why you were able to use that feature with your previous Wireless card:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/193555/intel-core-i5-8365u-processor-6m-cache-u...

But, in this case, the Intel® NUC 8 Pro Kit NUC8v5PNK is not compatible with Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card and that is basically the reason why it does not support AMT as before:

Additionally, if you are trying to update the Management Engine driver on the Intel® NUC, you just need to visit our official web site where you will find all the proper drivers for that unit:

Thank you for the information, it all makes sense.  Is there a way to see a list of compatible NUC devices for the AX200NGW wifi card?

AMTandIME, You are very welcome, thank you very much for your response.

In reference to your question, in the following link you will find the compatible information about software for the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000016716/network-and-i-o/wireless.html

In the following link you will find the list of Intel® NUCs that include the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card:
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/series/192636/intel-nuc-kit-with-9th-generation-intel-core-processors.html

Now, when it comes to hardware, that is something that it will depend on the integration and customization done by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) of the computer, they are the ones that purchase the Wireless cards from Intel® and install them on their platforms with their own driver and optimal components for the proper functionality of it, due to the regulatory information as well that is something that you will need to check directly with them.

Regarding the Router, same thing, the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card supports protocols a, b, g, n, ac, ax, so it should work almost with any Router, unless the OEM of it had some customizations or restrictions that limit the usage of the card.

If you are going to do a "Wireless Integration" what we recommend is actually to purchase the Intel® Wireless kit, that includes the Intel® Wireless card, the antennas and the brackets. For example: the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (Gig+) Module and the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201, in the links below you will see the specifications of each of them in order to use those units with any device that complies with them:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/wireless/wi-fi-6-ax200-module-brief.html

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/wireless/wi-fi-6-ax201-module-brief.html
