Intel Endpoint Management Assistant (EMA) hangs on install, is that normal?

I've tried installing Intel EMA 1.3.2.1 on a 2016 server with a 2012 SQL DB. It runs through the intallation steps quickly but then hangs at 'Installing Intel EMA Platform Manager...'. It's been hung there for 5 hours now.

Hi Shaun, the installation hanging for 5 hours is definitely not normal. Have you performed any actions since? If not, can you exit the installation and are you able to re-start the server and try the installation again?

Hey Michael, I've tried all sorts.

 

  1. Ran on server A (a clean install of 2016, windows updates applied, 16Gb Ram 8 CPU (2x4)). Result - stuck at installing EMA platform manager
  2. Rebooted server A, retried install, it ran as an upgrade and stuck again at same point.
  3. Recreated the database on the external SQL server (Server 2012r2, SQL 2012, user has DB owner role) and wiped server A. Ran installer again, same result.

 

The warnings and errors I see in the log are:

Hi Shaun,

 

Can you perform the following:

 

  1. disable windows firewall
  2. disable any anti-virus software
  3. run the EMA server installer
  4. select "selective uninstall" (3rd option)
  5. select all and uninstall
  6. reboot
  7. run EMA server installer again

 

If this doesn't work, in your reply, can you provide some times of availability to do a virtual trouble-shooting session? We are located in the PST time-zone, so more likely a late afternoon session for you.

Hi Michael I ran the uninstall and saw an error that the DB couldn’t be contacted. I confirmed I could reach it and could see tables that had been created on the previous install. I rebooted and ran the uninstall again. Saw the same message. Rebooted again and ran the install, still seems to hang at installing EMA platform manager. The Windows firewall is disabled but the AV is on. It’s Windows defender and I don’t see any logs indicating it’s stopping anything. Logs attached. I can do 17:00 tomorrow (0900 your time). Earlier would be better if possible but depends when you start your shift. Today I’m free until 16:30 (0830 your time). Thank you for the update. My apologies but I had meetings this morning and am booked Thursday morning. I realize that Friday would be your late afternoon but I have Friday morning available starting at my 7:00 am PST if that will work for you. I have try the installation on a server no joined to the domain and it worked just fine.  I'm thinking could it be a domain related issue. in the installation process?  any thoughts?

I'm also experiencing the same issue. Have tried installation on 3 different servers and hangs on "Installing Intel EMA Platform Manager" (left for 12+ hours - still hanging). Tried installing on non-domain server as one user suggested, wields the same results. (v1.3.2.1) anyone has been able to fix this?
