I dabble in open source SW now and then. Is AMT compatible with open source sw? Can I take advantage of any of the AMT features that vPro claims? I am tempted to experiment but would like to know before I plunk some money down on one of those vPro machines ...Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Hi Gita, welcome to the Intel vPro Expert Center.
Could you clarify what you are looking for:
Do you want to run opensource an opensource OS (Linux, Unix) on a vPro machine and use features like Agent Presence checking that require OS driver support? -- Have a look at http://openamt.org/ which provides open source drivers and tools
If you want to use an open source "management console" have a look at Ylian's AMT DTK which contains the AMT Commander. The sourcecode for this software is available as well. www.intel.com/software/amt-dtk/
Please keep in mind that many AMT features such as network filtering and power control are hardware based and do not require OS support.
Hope this helps!
Alex
