Upgrading a motherboard S5000VSA to stop the fan noise

Hi.

I´m trying to upgrade my motherboard S5000VSA to stop the loud noise. In fact I´ve been already through the upgrade process to the last firmware we have available for my motherboard, but during this procedure I´ve been asked to inform the correct chassi. I have few question that could help me.

1. How do I know which chassi I have?

2. How do I change the connector which I have my fan connect to during the upgrade?. In my case I have it connected to number 6.

3. The front of my cabinet I have a LED that doesn´t stop flashing.

thanks.

Hi scarrijo,

This community is specific to Intel vPro technology. Please post your question over in the Support community (/community/tech http://communities.intel.com/community/tech). You'll see that there is a desktop boards sub-community over there.

Thanks!

Hi there,

When the fan are spinning too loud, it can be due to:

1. Wrong system fans are connected on the board.

2. Incompatible chassis and wrongly configured SDR.

3. Compatible chassis with a wrongly configured SDR

4. Bios Settings wrongly configured.

I will personally try to check if the chassis is on the compatibility list and the system fan headers are correctly connected and then update the following:

- How to verify your Chassis if it is an Intel Chassis, you will see a sticker at the bottom of the chassis. Check the Model.

Once you have identifed correctly the chassis, make sure that you have the correct system fan header connected.

Check this document:

The recommended upgrade method, if not updating a hot-swap controller (HSC), is: Use the Dos Method

BIOS

BMC

FRUSDR

Reboot, and verify BIOS settings

The recommended method with an HSC(backplane) is:

BIOS

BMC

HSC

FRUSDR

Reboot, and verify BIOS settings.

After the update of these firmware, i will go onto the bios and Advanced, System Acoustic and Performance Configuration, Throttling Mode set to Open Loop,

Set fan profile as Acoustic and Altitude set 300 or less.

Other than this, next steps will be to verify the sel log and verify the release notes of the firmware if there is anything mentionned.

Hope these are useful,

Regards,

Aryan

Hi Aryan.

I´ve found the brochure that came with my chassi. Its model is Intel Entry Server Chassis SC5299-E DP/WS/BRP. The fan header is connected to the connector number 6. I´ve checked the BIOS and the Accoustics and Thottling Configuration are exactly the way you described Mode set to Open Loop, the profile of the fan is Accoustic and the Altitude is 300 less.

I think is all set according to your advices, but I still have fan spinning like a crazy gadget.

thanks

Sergio
