Hi all,

Just testing out vPro and when I power off or reboot machines, I get the Windows shut down unsuccessfully screen with safe mode or boot windows normally choices when machine is powered back on.

This doesn't happen when I shutdown manually with shutdown button.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Hello,

AMT utilizes low level hardware commands to perform its power control functions. This has the advantage that AMT commands will still function even if the operating system is in an unhealthy state. The disadvantage is that power functions such as reset will immediately reset the system (it will not prompt the user to save work, etc). This is why windows is showing the unsuccessful shutdown error.

One way to avoid this is to utilize windows commands to shutdown or restart the remote machine. For example, there is a 'shutdown' command and can shutdown a remote PC included in windows (see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317371 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317371). If your OS is in a good working state this will allow windows to shutdown correctly. If the system is not is a good working state and fails to shutdown, you can use AMT to force a shutdown.

Thanks

Richard,

thanks very much. This makes perfect sense, and I should've come up with that myself as we use the shutdown command often in other contexts.

Appreciate your time.
