Acer Aspire AM3920 i5 x64 win10.

Intel Graphics (HD) family adapter

Single monitor unning fine with Driver Version: 9.17.10.4459

Attach an HDMI device and during boot the display is present. Once windows goes through full boot process, when I assume the basic driver is overwritten with the Intel one and the 2nd monitor is lost.

Intel tools say no intel drivers but theyare there and working fine.

I have seen this on another HP PC that had exactly the same issue. Gave up trying to connect that one but now I see its a common issue.

I followed some recommendadtions and uninstalled the driver completely so now using the default windows driver from 2006 Version 10.0.18362.1 and the HDMI 2nd screen is now detected and stays working.

The issue now is that the graphics/resolution is very poor as basic adapter and cannot detect the correct screen drivers.

What alternative Intel driver is there that I should be using instead of the one windows loads (9.17.10.4459)?

All input appreciated.

Let us get some information:

Download, run, and save the results of this utility as a text file:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

Then ATTACH the text file (using the paperclip under the toolbar).

Al, that was quick.

More information:

The basic driver is only allowing mirror screen to the HDMI attached device which the Intel driver does not.

The adapter is not actually detecting the HDMI screen as being present and as a basic adapter driver does not detect the Samsung primary monitor.

File attached as requested.

I suppose I should ask if perhaps I am using an HDMI cable that does not support the appropriate signals to enable the driver to work correctly.

Your processor is from 2011 and is no longer supported. You are on Windows 10, 1909, and the best you can do is to use the microsoft generic graphics adapter, which lacks features and performance. There is no other driver than the Microsoft generic driver.

You certainly should try a different/better HDMI cable.

Being a desktop, you may want to try and find a compatible nvidia or amd graphics card. You will still be unsupported with the processor, but you will have a much better chance with graphics and nvidia/amd drivers.

Ok that is very helpful. I could have wasted even more time trying to fix it. Second pcie graphics card looks like the answer.

Appreciate your help

Just be carefult with compatibility. All say backwards compatible, but not all are. You may want to look for an older card.
