Intel Media SDK installation fails on Windows 10

Hi,

I downloaded the installer from here:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/tools/media-sdk/choose-download-client.html

https://registrationcenter.intel.com/en/products/postregistration/?sn=C9KD-B26MBVBD&Sequence=1603982&encema=Wg/bUFJY2qspv9ef8QA1f8ixwwk8OAff8l49eIUBiaE9nGhv8KaLy37Ih0pJl+Lt&pass=yes

The file name was MSDK2021R1.exe

I have tried it on four different machines which satisfy the requirements for the Media SDK (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/download/media-sdk-windows-release-notes.html) and the installer always fails the same way. First, it asks for admin rights, then you get a splash screen and a progress bar, and then it closes without doing anything. I also tried the older installers and they do not work either.

Can you fix the installer?

Is there a workaround to get the files contained in the installer from somewhere else?

Hi,

Good day to you.

Thanks for posting in Intel Communities.

The workaround solution to install MSDK2021R1.exe is mentioned below:

1. Right click on the MDSK2021R1.exe installer file

2. Click on "Properties" and go to the "Compatibility" tab

3. Check "Run this program in Compatibility mode for" option under Compatibility mode section as shown in attached screenshot

4. Make sure Windows 8 is selected from the sub-menu

5. Click on "Apply" and then click on "Ok" to save the changes

6. Re-run the installer

The reason for this issue is that the official final downloadable release version of Intel MediaSDK for Windows 10 is 2021R1 which is not the latest version. Intel MediaSDK lifetime ends in a form it exists right now. This project is going to be supported in maintenance mode, critical fixes only. All future development is planned to happen within Intel oneVPL library and its runtime implementations which are direct successors of Intel MediaSDK.

Alternatively, if you wish to install the latest version of Intel MediaSDK on Windows (experimental), you need to build the files from the official Intel MediaSDK GitHub repository using Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 (mandatory). The instructions for the same is also given below:

1. Clone this Intel MediaSDK GitHub repository: https://github.com/Intel-Media-SDK/MediaSDK

2. As mentioned in the repository, to build any Intel MediaSDK sample on Windows, you need to use Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 (Refer: https://github.com/Intel-Media-SDK/MediaSDK#system-requirements)

3. Open the AllBuild.sln file present in the cloned repository with Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 & build the samples

Hope this helps. If this clears your query, kindly click the “Accept as Solution” button to indicate that your issue is resolved. This will also help others with a similar issue.
