My first time here,
my cpu i5-3570K keep on going at 3.8GHz every time I set the multiplier to 34. I tried changing it to 33 and 35 and any other safe range and it follows accordingly, e.g. 33 -> 3.3GHz and 35 -> 3.5Ghz. The base clock is set to auto which displays the supposed frequency. This is very weird and I don't think it is related to turbo boost. It worked fine before i.e. stays at 3.4 and boosts to 3.8 on demand, and after some time suddenly I just noticed that the cpu stays at 3.8 even in BIOS. I am not sure but I think it happened around the time after I install my graphic card. It is EVGA GTX760 SC ACX which I believe is not related.
edit: p/s: I plan to try without the graphic card later
GA-Z77X-D3H
HyperX 1600
EVGA GTX760 SC ACX
Please help as I am not comfortable not knowing what's really happening to my PC
Thanks

Thanks for joining the community.
I understand the processor speed is running at 3.8 GHz even if you set lower settings the speed is not defaulting at 3.4 GHz.
This type of issue might be related to your computer BIOS or the processor itself.
Please try updating your computer BIOS and also try testing the processor by running processor diagnostic tool, this will let you know if there is something wrong with your processor.

Hi Allan,
To add to your understanding, the speed is not defaulting to 3.4 GHz only when I set it to 3.4 GHz. Set it to either 3.3 or 3.5 it will go accordingly.
I updated the BIOS to the latest one. Still no change, though the new BIOS, F18i, is beta and my previous BIOS was the latest official which is F16.
I tried running the processor diagnostic tool and it passed. I tried without the discrete graphic card as mentioned and it's not the solution.

Thanks for the clarification, however; I believe last resort would be replacing the processor. It may be defective.
Please contact Intel support and check warranty options at:
Choose processor area.
Allan.
