Extremly high temperatures

Hello,

So I never had issues with my CPU temperatures (at least that's what i think) that is untill introduction of Gigabyte F11 bios update that rolled out on Sep 27, 2024.

Since that update I easly climb up to 80 degrees with low to mid load. I made some changes as per Intel guidelines like setting ICCMAX to 307A, PL1 170W and PL2 188. Couldn't find where to change ICCMAX_App. Even with these limits applied I keep getting termal throttling and TDP throttling but I'm guessing that's because of PL1 and PL2 limits.

Recently Battlefield 6 Beta came out and I couldn't even play it, my temps were reaching 95 and game and other apps kept shutting down. Tried 3-4 times and gave up.

SPECS:

i7-13700KF

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080

Z790 GAMING X AX

BIOS: F13 Release Date 20.06.2025

Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version 10.0.26100

Hope this information helps and someone can help.

P.S. no I can't pull out my CPU and try it on other mobo, no such option.

The Intel Default Settings for the i7 13700KF are Turbo Boost Short Power Max (Pl1) 253w and Turbo Boost Max (PL2) 125w. Higher settings will potentially lead to issues such as elevated processor temperatures. So it is recommended to apply the Intel Defaults. Processor temperatures are also affected by other factors such as the CPU cooler, case cooling and background temperature.

If you want to check your CPU the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool can be downloaded from here . This will stress the CPU from the outset and will give a PASS/FAIL result. It might be useful to monitor CPU temperatures while this utility is running.

PL2 should be 125w but a number of motherboard manufacturers ignore this and set PL2=PL1=253w as standard. Typically the BIOS settings just show AUTO. The other issue here is that you did not see CPU temperature issues until Gigabyte BIOS release F11 and later. You should consider contacting Gigabyte support to see if they can advise on why this is the case, and whether there are any BIOS settings that can be adjusted to compensate for it.
