Instability Issues with i7-14700K System – Crashes Across Multiple Applications, No Hardware Faults

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing persistent system instability with my setup running an Intel Core i7-14700K. The issues manifest as frequent application crashes (Discord, Fortnite, The Hundred Line, Jackbox, etc.), and Event Viewer logs often include RADAR_PRE_LEAK_64 entries. Some of the crashes also reference amdxx64.dll (I'm using an AMD Radeon GPU). This has been going on despite extensive troubleshooting.

My system:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-14700K

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT

  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 (tested)

  • OS: Windows 11 (clean install)

  • Motherboard BIOS: June 2024 version until end of May 2025, now updated

  • No overclocking – everything is running at stock settings

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Multiple clean installs of Windows 11

  • Reinstalled all drivers, including AMD GPU drivers (clean removal with AMD Cleanup Utility)

  • MemTest86 and Windows Memory Diagnostics show no memory errors

  • Monitored CPU and GPU thermals – all normal

  • Disabled XMP

Despite all this, the problems persist. Some errors in Event Viewer point to amdxx64.dll (a graphics driver DLL), but others do not. Still, I’m wondering if there might be an underlying CPU-related issue, like those seen in some other reports involving 13th and 14th Gen Intel chips (e.g., unstable voltage regulation, microcode bugs, etc.).

Questions:

  1. Could these symptoms be indicative of known problems with 14th Gen CPUs?

  2. Would replacing the CPU be a reasonable next step, or should I consider other BIOS-level mitigations?

Thanks in advance for any insights. I’d like to rule out a faulty CPU before pursuing an RMA with the board or GPU vendors.

Best,

Hello H1-yena,

Thank you for posting on Intel Community Forum.

We sincerely appreciate the clarity with which you have described the issue, as well as the thorough documentation of the troubleshooting steps you have already undertaken. Your efforts greatly assist us in understanding the situation more effectively.

1. Was this working fine before or a newly integrated system?

2. Did you make recent changes to the system?

3. Do applications crash instantly?

4. Did you overclock the processor? (Please note that if the system was overclocked, including voltage/frequency beyond the processor supported specifications, your processor voids warranty.)

Regarding the concerns associated with 13th and 14th generation CPUs, the commonly observed symptoms include Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), game crashes, application errors, unexpected system reboots, and operating system or application hangs.

As we proceed with the investigation, our objective will be to determine whether the CPU is indeed defective based on the symptoms and further diagnostic results.

I look forward to your response.

Thank you for your kind words, Jed!

Regarding your questions, let me answer them one by one:

1. Was this working fine before or a newly integrated system?

My system has been working flawlessly for almost a year (June 2024 to end of May 2025) without any crashes or instabilities. It was when I was playing the latest The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remaster that I started getting weird crashes, but I brushed those off to the game being new and Oblivion being Oblivion. This is when I updated my AMD Adrenalin drivers but that did not really solve the issue. However, soon after I started getting frequently crashed browser tabs out of the blue, then the issues gradually increased and spread from the higher demanding applications like games to rather low-level stuff like basic Windows services. Sometimes applications crash several times in a row and it's a pain to get them to start up again.

2. Did you make recent changes to the system?

Hardware-wise, my PC had been untouched for a year. Of course, I always diligently installed Updates for Windows and I kept my drivers up to date, which is why I initially (and still mildly) suspected software problems, especially regarding my AMD drivers being buggy. I remember, however, that I did a clean reinstall of GPU drivers once and I swear that there was a problem in the installation process for the drivers still while on the Windows graphics drivers in safe-mode.

3. Do applications crash instantly?

Sometimes they crash instantly, like certain games like Victoria 3 or benchmarking software like OCCT. Signal sometimes crashes on start up too. Others, like the once I listed, usually take their time and crash in variable amounts of time from just a few minutes to an hour or so. I do distinctly remember, however, a BSOD (of which I had several since) during one of my Windows 11 reinstallation attempts.

4. Did you overclock the processor?

I did not touch any overclocking settings for the CPU, so the processor should be running as intended by INTEL.

I know I might sound a little rambly, but this issue has been preoccupying me for a while now, the repairshop I brought the system in to also couldn't figure out what the problem was. Apparently under Windows 10, the benchmarks couldn't find anything wrong with my hardware at the time.

I hope the info I provided helped the investigation in some way!

Have a nice week,

H1-yena
