Intel Xeon 5130

Hi:

I have a Dell Precision 690 that has two 5130 dual core, processors on the motherboard. AT 2.0Ghz, they are getting slow.

The one at work, same model has two quad cores at 3.2 Ghz which makes a difference. Both run 8 GB or RAM.

Without cannibalizing another machine is there a processor(s) that anyone would suggest to replace these units? Yes I'd like to replace both of them. Makes more sense.

Now, to confirm whether those processors will work in your system or not it will be better to get in contact with the system builder at 1-877-293-1197.

thanks for the reply. Couple of things....

called 1 877 (Dell) and they were no help. They couldn't find the machine in the system, and then when I described the issue of wanting to upgrade the cpu, they said talk to my local computer shop. And I did a spec check on the link you put up, but it seems that chip is no stronger than the one I have now. The spec sheet doesn't even show the clock speed. So I did the product compare and found very little to compare, spec sheets are different. So, I'm about to find the # on the motherboard and then go hunting for a compatable chip based on that. I'm sure there is another chip there, since the same model has two quad cores at 3.2 Ghz on my office machine.
