Hi!
i have a MSI Tomahawk Z790 motherbard and my i7-14700 is getting very fast to 100°C, and i noticed on CPUID HWMonitor total package wats was 253W! (i thought max tdp is 220W)
I tested processor with Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool and everything is ok., but temperatures are very high.
Idle temp. are about 40-45°C.
is this ok?
All settings in bios are default

I just bought this CPU and running it with a Artic liquid freezer 2 240 in 65w just fine.
But yes if you enable it to 253watt in the bios this thing gos off and reaches 100c easy with a 240mm aio.
Anytime i reaches pass 7 from cinabench the p core gos 100c but anytime it hits 100 i stop the program.
After three tests i set it back to 65watt until i have the beeffy cooler.
So i just bought a EKWB EK-Nucleus AIO CR360 Dark [ but this one out of stock till jan ] So instead i ordered from the same company but diff brand this one Alphacool Eisbaer Aurora 360mm AIO.
Apparently the artic liquid freezer 3 360mm aio wil also do the trick with keeping these CPUs cool at full power.
Im gnne test it tomorrow so ill see.

nah it won't.
MO-RA3 which on one side fits 9x 140mm fans can't keep it cool even at 250W for longer time.
Since its winter where i live, i left the windows open in the PC room....after work i came to 15°C room temperature., the water was showing me 16°C.
For a brief moment it went to 330W, but as i run the test longer it dropped bcoz of thermal throttling.
At 330W still did not reach the default frequency, but it was close.
If i run the PC for while room temp at 19°C and TDP limited to 125W, then the water gets up to 25°C, if i then run a test, the TDP will not go beyond 270W, averaging at some 240W while thermal throttling the whole time.
Conclusion = can't run at 250W with just normal liquid cooling, radiator size does not matter much, it just changes how long it will take until thermal throttling kicks in.
This is btw with that contact frame, it will be unchanged without it as well.
The water block i use is Heatkiller 4Pro. I can hook up a 18W water pump run it at full speed and stabilize the temperatures, still thermal throttling will be happening....i really tried everything, its no use, therefore i run it with TDP limited to 125W all the time, taht gives me good performance while temps stay under 65°C
Forgot to mention, that is with a 13700k CPU.

Hey man,
Alright i read your full story,
Tomorrow ill try my new cooler and ill see whatsupp.
Prob wil put it to 253w and maybe disable both CEP settings see if that works if not ill manually undervolt bye changing ofset.
My brother can keep his i5 14600k cool with a 240w aio and setting it on max tdp CEP off. stays cool enough.
So ill see if i can get it stable tomorrow.
I do have a fairly big case with plenty fans. NZXT Pubg Mid tower. h700
Ill keep you updated if i manage or not. haha
