Dear All,

I have a very nice piece of NAS motherboard with a J1800 cpu integrated. The functionality is great except that the CPU performance is below expectation. I noticed that the same model of motherboard is also shipped in J1900 version. Assume that I have the capability to unsolder and change the CPU, is there any way to know if the motherboard is compatible to J1900 prior to the actual operation?

I have also read some DELL motherboard is shipped in both J1800 and J2900 version :http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19633367 Dell Inspiron i3646 Processor Upgrade - General Hardware - Desktop - Dell Community Does that means I can directly upgrade my board with J2900?

Many thanks!

You need to be speaking with DELL regarding this. An upgrade processor must be socket, BIOS, and chipset compatible for such an upgrade.

All thee of these processors are socket compatible:

The bad news, as you have already stated, is that the processor is soldered to the board. Your chances of successfully unsoldering the old, and installing and soldering the new, are extremely low.

However, you need to ask DELL if their BIOS supports the processor you want to use for the upgrade.

You are absolutely right. But the thing is I really doubt if the manufacturer of my MB would care to answer me. I wonder if I can read the supported CPU list from the binary BIOS file.

Hello ElectricBug,

I understand that your MB manufacturer might not answer you but unfortunately this processor is Tray processors and any information related with compatibility is only handled by the computer manufacturer.
