Minimum display resolution for 12900K?

I've just assembled an all-new-components mid-tower PC based on ASUS Prime 790-A Wifi CSM and 12900K.

I have a new display on order, but for build purposes I'm using a 14-yo LG W2600V with a max resolution of 1900 x 1200.  As a test I connected a notebook PC I also have here to this LG display with an HDMI cable and proved that the Windows desktop of the computer shows correctly on the display.

I did my first power-on test of the new mid-tower system using the same HDMI cable to connect to the display.

I have some trouble getting the display to render the PC's output, I think because of the display's power-saving feature.  I have booted the system a number of times now.  Mostly I get nothing rendered on the display, it's just blank (if I disconnect the HDMI cable, I get an on-screen message "no cable connected" or similar).  One time during boot when I moved the mouse / used the keyboard, I guess with the right timing, the PC output rendered on the display and I could see it's an AMI BIOS and my CPU, RAM & storage devices were recognised properly.  However, the text did not all fit on the screen, as if the resolution was too small and it was over-running at left and at bottom.

Is there a minimum display resolution required to support the startup sequence for the 12900K graphics?  I can find nothing in Intel or ASUS documentation.

I have been working on the investigation,  based on the specifications of the processor these are the resolutions supported:

Max Resolution (HDMI)‡: 4096 x 2160 @ 60Hz

Max Resolution (DP)‡: 7680 x 4320 @ 60Hz

Max Resolution (eDP - Integrated Flat Panel)‡: 5120 x 3200 @ 120Hz

You need to have into consideration the resolutions supported by the system and the monitors.

You can check the resolutions supported by the Intel® Core™ i9-12900K Processor on the 12th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors Datasheet, Volume 1. Page 149 "Table 61. Display Resolutions and Link Bandwidth for Multi-Stream Transport Calculations"

Thanks, Andres.  From p.149 there, it looks like a minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080, doesn't it?

An update from my side:

The main reason I wasn't getting any display during BIOS startup, was that the keyboard I was using was not working.  The LG manual says to use the 'keyboard or mouse' to get the display to come awake from power-saving.

The BIOS startup text still doesn't fit on my display, nor does the Windows 10 desktop - top, bottom and both edges extend beyond the display field so that I can't see them.  It's fun fishing for the power controls

The W10 desktop thinks it is running 1080p; the LG on-screen display menu says it is too (I said above 1900 x 1200 but its max is 1920 x 1200).

It looks there's a problem with the HDMI protocol between display & PC.  Anyway, my initial problem "can't get BIOS startup screen to display" is solved.

Thank you for your response I am sorry to hear that you are having resolution issues with your Intel® UHD Graphics 770.

You are right, as per page 149 seems the minimum resolution is 1920x1080.

To have a better understanding of the situation, please answer the following questions:

• Was it working before properly?
• What is the display make and model?
• Download, run, save and attach the report for the following tool Intel® System Support Utility for Windows (SSU), you can find the steps on the link How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows.

Hi again.

Per my first post, the display's an LG W2600V.

I activated Windows with a licence key; that gave me options other than 1920x1080 for display resolution (in fact including lower resolutions); I chose 1920 x 1200 and now I my desktop fits correctly to the screen.  I can see up to every edge.  That's the problems here solved.
