My i9-14900KS overheating all of a sudden

Hi, so I built this PC October 16th, it's my first ever build and it's been running perfectly, until 2 days ago where I got a red CPU light on the motherboard and the temperature spiked whilst playing a game like usual, I use a Corsair AIO so the LCD shows the Liquid temp, which went from 47C to 65C in a minute. Then the light went away but it remained fairly hot ever since. Before that it had never gone above 50C (Liquid temp) And yesterday my PC overheated and shut down and started flashing red, the last thing I saw on the LCD was the liquid temp jumping from 52C to an instant 72C before shutting down, I felt the top of the case and it was almost untouchable. I've tried looking stuff up but I haven't really been successful as I'm not a big PC guy as this is my first build and I just wanted a proper rig. Currently I haven't done anything except run the Intel Processor Diagnostics Tool which everything was fine in. I'll list the specs below.

And another bit of information, idle CPU temps is now about 65-75C and room temp is 22-25C depending on how much load the pc is on

Case: Hyte Y70 Panda
CPU: Intel i9-14900KS
Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING Z790 PLUS WIFI
Ram: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 Ram (2x32GB) 6000MHz CL40
SSD 1: Samsung 990 PRO Heatsink NVMe M.2 SSD
SSD 2: Samsung 990 PRO NVME M.2 SSD
GPU: RTX 3070 (Only explanation behind that is waiting for 5090)
PSU: Be quiet Straight power 1200W
CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE LINK H150i LCD QX120 RGB White (Pre applied thermal paste)
7 Case fans: Corsair iCUE LINK QX120RGB White

As mentioned, never had any issues or crashes prior to this overheating issue

Hi Delta5,

Greetings from Intel Customer Support.

I understand that you are experiencing overheating issue with your Intel Core i9-14900KS processor. Please allow me to check what else I could be of help with.

In order for me to assist you with this, I would like to set your expectations by saying that I will be asking you a series of questions to narrow down the recommendations I could provide. If you may, kindly share the following details below:

  1. For the record, were the Intel processors working normally before?
  2. When did the issue start?
  3. Were there any recent changes to the system before the issue started?
  4. Has the Intel processor been overclocked?
  5. Is there any physical damage to the unit?
  6. When is the exact purchase date for the Intel processor?
  7. Would you be able to provide the power scheme settings that were applied to your system? You can locate the power scheme options by navigating to Control Panel > Power Options. The available schemes typically include Balanced, Power Saver, High Performance, or Ultimate Performance.
  8. Have you done any troubleshooting? If so, please specify.

Furthermore, I hope to know if possible for you to download and install an Intel tool that will scan your system. Don't worry, there will be no personal information to be collected. To get the tool, please visit this link: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html

Please run the program, select everything, then scan, click next, save the result log, and upload the text file in your next response.

I will be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Brian T.

The CPU was working fine for about a month. Then all of a sudden it overheated and auto shut down and experienced blue screens and incredbily high idle temps (90C+) the blue screens kept it up for about 1 minute then died again. I've ran an intel diagnostics check which said everything was good. I've replaced my AIO, unsure when the new one will arrive. But definitely a CPU issue in some way. Think its a joint issue with the AIO and CPU that cause it to shut down. Everything was flashing red too. The CPU is un changed, everything is factory settings. I purchased it sometime mid this year from a retailer in my country. Unable to find the power scheme as I have no cooler installed at the moment and it blue screens too fast to check

Hi Delta5,

Thank you for your response.

Just to ensure, I would like you to update the BIOS version of your motherboard due to the recent BIOS version released on your motherboard's website and change the BIOS settings of your system to the preferred settings of the Intel processor.

To help you with this, please visit this link: https://community.intel.com/t5/Processors/June-2024-Guidance-regarding-Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-K-KF/m-p/1607807

Since this parameter is a generic term, I highly recommend that you seek assistance with your motherboard support to know where you can find those BIOS settings. Once you are done with the recommendation, kindly confirm if you are still experiencing instability on your system.

Also, I would like to let you know that this recommendation is to make your processor stable, and there is still a possibility that this will work on your system.

I will be waiting for your response.
