NUC6i5SYH Previous Version BIOS Image

I tried to update the BIOS of my NUC6i5SYH from 0060 to 0072.
'''

The update fails with this message.
I expected it to be a problem with the upgrade path, but it seems that only the latest version, 0072, can be downloaded from the official download page.
Do you know why this happens and how to deal with it? what?

Hi @Yoi

Recover your BIOS using BIOS Recovery by Secure Jumper Removed method

  1. Prepare USB stick fully formatted to FAT32 with Bios file sy0072.bio https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28829/BIOS-Update-HNKBLi70-86A-?product=126143 . Format your USB with Quick Format option unchecked. Do not format your USB in MAC (OS) or Linux machine. Use Windows.

  2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the upper cover and the LED panel from your NUC. Disconnect the LED panel connector before panel removing.
  3. Remove the yellow security jumper (see Product Technical Spec, para. 2.3, page 55 )  I'm attaching this TPS here.
  4. Insert the USB with the sy0072.bio file.
  5. Reconnect the power adapter and power ON the NUC. Wait 30 sec - 2min. The Recovery process will start automatically and will end after 2 -5 minutes.
  6. When bios recovery is completed, switch the power OFF, remove the power adapter and replace the Security Jumper (pins 1-2) . Reinstall the LED panel and the upper cover.
  7. Power your NUC ON.
  8. Enter Bios setting by pressing F2 during boot process.
  9. Press F9(followed by "Y"), to set Bios to default settings. Press F10 (followed by "Y"), to save the settings and exit to O.S. Let the NUC fully reboot.
  10. If before update, you have customized bios settings, you can enter again to Bios setting to change the necessary settings.

FYI, the latest BIOS, previously released for NUC6i5SYH is BIOS sy0073.bio. This version was removed from the download site without explanation. BTW, in my NUC I've installed this version. So, I'm attaching this version to this post and it is your decision to use it or stay with the SY0072.bio.

Hi Leon,

I just wanted to thank you for posting the SY0073 BIOS file.  I just wasted 20-30 minutes going in downloadcernter.intel.com circles, then Googling, then thinking it was hopeless.

Thanks again,

Matt Shipley

I bought a non-working NUC on eBay. I have no idea of the history.

When powered on the blue light comes on solid. After about 3 seconds the HDMI monitor power indicator changes from blue to amber and it looks like it's sleeping or hibernating? I never see any activity on the monitor.
Fan runs, I see some activity at the ethernet port.
Followed the recovery process outlined here.

When powered on with the USB stick it reacted the same as always. I waited 15 minutes to see if anything changed and then put the jumper back in and rebooted. No change.

Should I have seen anything on the monitor while it was trying to recover the BIOS?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.
