New Processor

I was wondering if someone can help me with a problem. I currently have a Denver 10 motherboard with an Intel Pentium E2180. I am thinking of upgrading my processor to an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7600. However I am unsure whether it will work with my motherboard. As far as I can tell they both have the same FSB speed and the same CPU socket, but since I am quite new to this I am probabbly missing somthing important. If anyone can see any reason why they wouldn't work together could you please tell me. Thanks

The P18 Bios list support for the E7200/E7300 so it should be fine, you could even go for the E8xxx?

I thought all the E8000 series have 1333MHz FSB whereas my motherboard only supports up to 1066MHz FSB?

The nVidia spec's here:

This indicates that the upto E8600 (or even QX6580) is supported.

The E8000 do have 1333Mhz FSB, it seems like it should be supported but it's upto PackardBell to add the support in BIOS.

Doesn't that mean that the 1333MHz processors will just be running at 1066MHz, defeating the point of having one?

I think they say 1066Mhz FSB as the chips that they supply are spec for that.

If you want to be safe then stick with a 1066Mhz chip, if your prepaired to take a risk then you can go anything supported by the chipset.

Can I add something?

It seems that the Denver 10 mobo is the same than the GF7050VT-M5 from ECS (GeForce7050 / 610i): the best is to check physically.

So in this case, it's support the 1333 FSB perhaps thank to bios upgrade (the one from ECS can be carely tried).
