Hi,
I could not find some email or support form to send this report - so I'm posting it here:
A small document error in:
Intel® 64 and IA-32 Architectures
Software Developer’s Manual
Volume 2B:
Instruction Set Reference, M-U
(253667-087-sdm-vol-2b)
The error:
The section for opcodes for SCAS - the title is missing the SCASQ despite this opcode it is present in the table below this title.
Original text is "SCAS/SCASB/SCASW/SCASD—Scan String" (SCASQ missing).
I know it is minor but for the sake of completeness :-).

Hi nickbell,
Thank you for posting in our Community. To assist us in forwarding this to the appropriate internal documentation team, I’d like to confirm a few quick details:
- Could you kindly share the specific section number or page number where this omission appears?
- Are you referencing the PDF version available on the Intel website, or another format (e.g., printed or offline copy)?
- Have you encountered any similar inconsistencies or would you like to report anything else while we're on this topic?
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Von M.

Hi Von M,
Answers to your questions:
*) The section referred in my original post is:
CHAPTER 4 INSTRUCTION SET REFERENCE, M-U
4.3 INSTRUCTIONS (M-U)
SCAS/SCASB/SCASW/SCASD—Scan String
*) Yes, it is the PDF file named "253667-087-sdm-vol-2b.pdf" downloaded from this link:
https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getContent/671241
The document itself is named:
"Intel® 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer's Manual Volume 2B: Instruction Set Reference, M-U"
*) There is one more potential document misalignment I discovered in the following document:
"Intel® 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer's Manual Volume 2A: Instruction Set Reference, A-L"
https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getContent/671199
CHAPTER 3 INSTRUCTION SET REFERENCE, A-L
3.3 INSTRUCTIONS (A-L)
FCOMI/FCOMIP/ FUCOMI/FUCOMIP—Compare Floating-Point Values and Set EFLAGS
The issue I've noticed here is that the column "Instruction" refers to the ST(0) register only with "ST" - like "FCOMI ST, ST(i)" while in the description of this same opcode - the "ST" is explicitly specified as "ST(0)" (important clarification). It is kind of misleading - especially when all other x87 FPU instruction sections have this "ST(0)" spelled explicitly in the "Instruction" column (see for example "FADD/FADDP/FIADD—Add"). It's just a uniformity discrepancy.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Nikolay
