Hello,

Can I use my current Intel dual-core processor fan heatsink (two years old) with a just-acquired (used) core2duo processor?

Thanks

hello, I want to put the new processor onto the same old mobo d945gcl, replacing my current dual-core proc. with an e6700 core2duo which is the max currently supported by mobo. I'd like to use the same old fan heatsink with it. Thanks

The Boxed version of the Intel Core2 Duo E6700 uses a FCLGA4-L FHS (part number D60188-001)

Older processore in the dual core used the FCLGA4-R. FCLGA4-L, FCLGA4-T

They are all Conroe Based (65nm and PCG of 06) and it should be fine... get new Thermal Interface Material.

Get the numbers off your old processor and I can look it up with more clarity.

Thanks, you are very kind. Those details should be enough, I'll check the code printed on the old cpu first though.

Btw, I came across this site http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/cs-023107.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/cs-023107.htm with instructions on installing the new thermal grease. Now my only doubt would be how do you get rid of old thermal interface material on both cpu and heatsink? by using what?

Thanks again!

ronago , you should be able to rub it off with your finger and then clean the heatsink with denatured or rubring alcohol (I've heard fingernail polish remover or Goo Gone works too) Be careful and do not scratch the heatsink surface. Make sure you follow ESD saftey proceedures.
