Will my Intel i5-4440 support Windows 11? It isn't on Microsoft's list of necessary hardware.

Read Doc's answer here: https://community.intel.com/t5/Mobile-and-Desktop-Processors/Processors-TPM-and-Windows-11-24H2/m-p/1647361.

Read my clarification here: community.intel.com/t5/Embedded-Intel-Core-Processors/WIN-11-Compatibility/m-p/1709855#M5689.

I just upgraded an Intel Core i7-4770-based PC (Intel DZ87KLT-75K Desktop Board) from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro. Yes, there were warnings that there might be incompatibilities (I found none so far). Yes, there were warnings that these upgrades wouldn't be supported for long (speculation is that MS may cut off updates to 25H2 for unsupported PCs (they're mum on this)). Yes, many of the security features that Microsoft considers absolutely crucial (TPM, VBS instruction set support, etc.) are missing. It runs. It seems to run just as well. I accept that its security is less that MS' requirements - but it is the same level of security that I had with Windows 10. So there.

...S

P.S. That VBS instruction set support is what put the line in the sand at Intel's 8th gen (and AMD's Zen 2) processors. These processors had them, previous ones didn't (well, wait a sec.). The confusion came when MS also included some 7th Gen processors in their list. This was them making exceptions for their own (Surface laptop, etc.) products that had 7th gen processors. This was also because some (a very few) of Intel's 7th gen refresh processors also included support for the VBS instruction set. Bottom line, it was a blurry line in the sand.
