core i7-840qm mobile max memory

I received a custom Asus G73 laptop with i7-840qm and 16GB (4 x 4GB) memory installed. However it would only detect 8GB. This is inline with Intel specs. On the other hand I see in the forum that Lenovo got it to work with 16GB of RAM. Dell is also shipping M6500 with 16GB.

Which information is correct 8GB or more? Is there some sort of switch to enable more than 8GB of memory.

Hello; According to your processor specifications the maximum amount of memory supported is 8GB, you can confirm this information here: http://communities.intel.com/thread/16797?tstart=0 http://communities.intel.com/thread/16797?tstart=0 Also it will support DDR3-1066/1333 memory only and there is no option in BIOS in order to make the processor to support more memory. I recommend to contact the laptop manufacturer for more assistance.
