i5 14600K Crashes in Games

Hello!

I've recently installed an i5-14600K, and ever since, all my games have been crashing. The screen freezes, and the game closes on its own after a few minutes—sometimes with a generic error, other times with a GPU-related error. I've tried troubleshooting but haven’t had any luck.

I've run and attached an SSU scan so you can check my system specs.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

1) Completely uninstalled and reinstalled NVIDIA GPU drivers

2) Disabled AI CEP in BIOS (as suggested in a post here)

3) Updated BIOS to the latest version for my ASUS Z690-A (Current version: 4101)

4) Applied Intel Default Settings in BIOS

5) Ensured Windows is fully updated

6) Updated all motherboard drivers via Armoury Crate

7) Disabled XMP (now re-enabled as it made no difference)

Ran memtest86 and showed no errors whatsoever

9) Monitored temperatures and they are okay

Would you be so kind as to assist me, please?

Thank you!

Hello ermitanda,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

For me to further check this, please help provide the following details:

  1. When did you purchase the unit?
  2. Was it working fine before?
  3. Did you change any settings before the issue started?
  4. Did you also updated the BIOS of your motherboard to the latest?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Best regards,

Hi Mike,

I purchased the processor in January, I've built a new gaming pc from scratch so I've had the problem from the beginning. I didn't change any settings and I've updated my motherboard bios.

One thing I noticed today was artifacts on my screen when launching gpu benchmarks and Nvlddmkm \Device\Video3 Errors occurring in event viewer. I'm thinking this might relate to the gpu rather than the cpu, but seeing other people having similar issues with 13th-14th gen CPUs, I'm still not sure

Thanks

Hello ermitanda,

Thank you for the update.

For the processor, just make sure that the BIOS of your motherboard is updated and loaded the BIOS default settings.

However in this case, it is best to test them individually to isolate which one is causing the issue.

You may also contact NVIDIA to check if they have software that can check if there is a hardware issue.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello Mike,

so I've tried another GPU and the problem is luckily now gone. However, I've noticed the CPU temperature ramp up to almost 100° in demanding games. 87° on average. Should I be concerned? I have properly applied thermal paste and I have Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 with 2 fans and I never had the issue before installing the new GPU.

Thanks

Hello ermitanda,

Thank you for the update.

Let me clarify, the 100 degrees temperature. Is it just a spike or does it stay there for a long time?

When you say the average is 87 degrees, this is what you are getting while playing?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
