Hello Wagga,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

I understand that you wanted a complete guidance to keep your processor running with a longer life. Since this is a 13th/14th Generation processor stability issue, it is important to keep your BIOS firmware to the latest microcode (0x12B) or later. I highly recommended regular checking with your motherboard manufacturer support team for firmware and check with them before performing any actions.

I hope to know the exact issue description so I can provide further assistance. Please share the following details below:

1) Issue description.

2) What troubleshooting steps has been done so far.

3) Provide your system configuration so I can check further and provide an appropriate fix. This could be possible by downloading the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software. When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

  • Scan: Check the box Everything.
  • Click Scan.
  • Review: When finished scanning, click Next.
  • Click Save (.txt). Attach the log file as you reply.

4) What power scheme is used?

I am also sharing this community link where we posted our recommendations where you may follow the provided settings inside the BIOS then tell us if there is an improvement.

I will wait for your reply.

Hi, I have set the Powerlimits to PL1 35 and PL2 60 ,before 1 install the BIOS Update 15.01 from Asrock.
I install the BIOS Update 15.01 (12B) on October 2024 the third 3 day. 2024-10-03.

I would like to know how I can tell if the processor is defective or not. I haven't had any special errors so far.

BIOS Update 15.01 form September 26 is installed on October third.
I set the Power Limit on PL1 125 and PL2 125 Watt.

Between January 2023 and March 2024 the CPU works with the WIndows Power Management
P Cores 2500 MHZ bzw. Multiplicator 25 and E Cores on 41.
In the April 2024 I set the Powerlimits to 35 Watt Pl1 and PL2 60 Watt.
I set the, in the january 2024, Multiplicator on 48 on the P Cores and E Cores 36 (4800 MHZ /3600 MHZ).
I installed the BIOS Update 15.01 from the Asrock Software 15.01 on 03. Octobre 2024,
in the 06 January 2024 the BIOS Update 5.01 is installed.

BIOS Version/Date:"American Megatrends International, LLC. 15.01 , 09/27/2024"
System Model:"Z790 PG Lightning/D4"
Processor:"13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700KF , GenuineIntel"
"AMD Radeon RX 6600
"Memory"
Physical Memory (Available):"78,56 GB"
Physical Memory (Installed):"96 GB"
Physical Memory (Total):"95,84 GB"

The CPU ran from January 2023 to about summer 2024 under the Asrock default settings and I don't know if the CPU was damaged or not. How can I recognize this or is there a test program?
Have a nice christmas and a nice day.
Thank you.

Hello Wagga,

Thank you for sharing this information. All the steps you've taken to make sure that your processor will not experience any instability issue are remarkable. I can say at this point of time that your processor is running at its best condition, since it does not have any signs of the issue.

We don't have any tool to detect such, however, I highly recommend making sure that the BIOS microcode stays at its latest version, especially if you are experiencing issues. If you're in doubt, you may always contact your motherboard manufacturer support for any assistance with the BIOS updates or may contact us back for any future concerns or questions.

Let me know if you still have any clarifications that I can help you with.

Sincerely,

JeanetteC.

Hello, currently the problem has been solved, if you have a test program at some point or there is another way I could test whether my CPU is damaged or not, it would be nice if you let me know that as an answer in the future. Thank you very much. I wish you a happy new year 2025 and good health. Sincerely, Wagga

Happy New Year to everyone, especially health.

Everything is running great on the PC.

I have one more question though: BIOS update 15.01 or microcode 12B is on it.

Today, after I came back 2 hours later and took the PC out of energy saving mode,

HW Info shows the following values, which always run as standard.

Is there a reading error or is the CPU going crazy?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Wagga

Hello Wagga,

Thank you for sharing this update.

You may check your CPU health by using our tool, Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool, as this tool verifies the functionality of an Intel® microprocessor. The diagnostic checks for brand identification, verifies the processor operating frequency, tests specific processor features and performs a stress test on the processor. Check the User Guide.

You may also use the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) which is used to overclock, monitor, and stress a system (memory and CPU stress test). You may check more information about this related article about Intel XTU - System Stability and Stress Testing.

I cannot comment on the results of those application(s) used since these are 3rd-party software. You may check with the 3rd-party software developer to understand the results better.

Feel free to let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.
