i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz. Running a large (Perl) database search query, one single core/thread maxes out at 100% when all others are at 0%. Is there any hardware/bios way to enable additional cores?

The only options to enable/disable processor cores are available in the BIOS settings, which can vary depending on the motherboard/BIOS manufacturer; or in Windows* System Configuration utility (msconfig). In this last case we suggest leaving the Boot Advanced Options as default, so Number of processors should be left unchecked.
