Hi, I just bought an i7-4790k to upgrade my pc (from i3-4170) and whenever the proccessor usage goes to about 100%, my pc freezes and the bluescreens with 0x00000124.
I check for all of the updates and I'm up to date.
I installed my old processor and it works fine.
The only thing I found online (after hours of search) is to do with disabling CPU workload automation in the BIOS, but I can find no such option (I'm running Asus H81-M plus with bios version 2205).
Any ideas on how to fix it?

Hi @PNeter
- Please download and install Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool
- Run test and if the test will fail (which indicated CPU failure), attach the result to warranty claim https://supporttickets.intel.com/warrantyinfo?lang=en-US

Do you know for certain that your i7-4790K is supported by the bios of your motherboard?
Verify with Asus that this processor is supported.
Also, provide your operating system AND VERSION.

- Have you checked the CPU temperature developed during 100% load. You may use Hwmonitor for temperature monitoring (the Sensors part): https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.28.exe?
- While installing the new CPU, did you cleaned the old thermal past and then applied a new one?
- In order to disable CPU workload automation in the BIOS", look if you can find a field Intel Turbo Boost Technology. Disable it. It may be in Performance > Processor part.

Temperature is fine, CPU doesn't even get a chance to heat up, it freezes immediately.
Yes, I made sure it's as clean as i can get it.
Now this is something I'll try to do. Still nothing.

Everything you are saying is pointing to the processor not being compatible with this motherboard. Have you verified that you have the latest available BIOS installed? If so, set the BIOS configuration to defaults and see how it acts then.

Yes, I made sure the motherboard officialy supports it and made sure that the BIOS is the newest (2205 version from the official asus website). I've tried the default settings and it doesn't change a thing.
