The answer is M.2 SATA as confirmed by this post on the HP Community forum.
If not done already it may be worth ensuring that your laptop drivers and software are up to date before installing a drive. HP will, once you confirm your Windows version, link you to a support page that lists all the latest drivers etc and also offers an automated tool that will identify all the needed updates.
