No, it's not normal. I have an i5-2500 that idles at 30 C. I'll bet either the heatsink is not properly seated or the thermal compound was not applied correctly.

Hello antnolang:

Thank you very much to paramountain for the feedback provided.

Even thought the specifications for the Intel® i5-2400 states that inside the case the processor could reach 72.6°C for idle it is a little bit high.

So, as it was mentioned above, there might be a problem with the heatsink itself, not properly seated, you can always verify the pins on it to make sure it is properly attached to the board, or the thermal grease was not applied correctly, even though the fan has stripes of thermal grease, sometimes it is needed to add more, to get the thermal grease you can always get in contact directly with us, through chat, email, online support or phone support, here is the link to do that, you just need to select the type of product you are interested in replacing and you will get those options:

Also, we do have a tool to test the processor, it does an overall test, including a stress test, and temperature test, at the end it will give you a report where you can verify the results, to make sure the temperature is fine:

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello antnolang:

I just wanted to confirm if you saw the information previously posted on this thread and if it was useful for you?

Any questions, please let me know.

Well, i have tested the processor twice with different results. First time, the processor didn't pass the test because the temperature was 1 degree below max. Second time, processor temperature was 3 - 4 degree below max, so it passed the test.

I checked the pins and they properly attached to the board. So it's ok or should I put more thermal grease?

I'm sorry if my english is not good.

Hello antnolang:

Based on the information from the Intel® processor diagnostics tool, if the processor passed the test, then that indicates that the processor is working fine.

There is no need to apply more thermal paste, but one thing to try will be to check if the case has a proper air flow, if the fan is properly placed on the board, if there is dust inside the case, those things are the ones we always recommend to check for this type of scenarios.

Any questions, please let me know.

Alberto
