network gets disconnected

I have an intel motherboard DH61WW and Intel core i5 processor running on Windows 10 Home edition personal computer. Most of the times, my ethernet gets disconnected when the PC wakes up from sleep. Other times, the network is absent after I startup.

I tried many trouble shooting steps found on the internet. I've gone into "Network Adapters" in Device Manager and unchecked mark next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device". I have seen that many people face this problem.

The way I get over it is to prolong the sleep time to 30 mins.

Many of the Ethernet solutions utilized on 6 Series (and 7 Series, for that matter) Intel Desktop Boards simply were not supported by Intel with Windows 10 (if I understand Intel's nomenclature on the Supported Operating Systems for Intel Ethernet Controllers (LOM) page, they were only supported through build 1803 and not at all after that). You are instead running on the inbox driver provided by Microsoft - their "forward port" of one of Intel's Windows 8.x drivers. These were provided by Microsoft as-is, with no guarantees that they will work with subsequent versions of Windows 10.

Bottom line, I cannot find anything from Intel that would indicate that workarounds are possible for this issue - and there certainly aren't any driver updates. Your options, as I see it, are as follows:

  1. Replace you entire system with something more-modern.
  2. Since you have a 3rd gen processor, you could look for a 7 Series motherboard  that utilizes a still-supported Ethernet component (perhaps from RealTek?) to replace your 6 Series Desktop Board.
  3. You can look at using a PCIe-based Ethernet card, like this (US$15): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003CFATNI.
  4. You can look at using a USB Ethernet card, like this (US$7): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084MCVVP9.
  5. You can stick with your existing Wireless card.

Sorry, but 11-year old systems suffer from these kinds of problems.

What BIOS do you have installed? Look for a string that starts with 'BEH6110H.86A.'

Hello Scott,

Thanks for looking in the issue.

Intel Corp. BEH6110H.86A.0109.2012.1221.1455, 21-12-2012

I am sharing two videos of the startup and system information.

Ok, you have BIOS 0109. I am attaching the latest BIOS, 0120. Use the F7 method to upgrade to it.

Thanks Scott,.

I did update the bios using F7. Still the problem persists.

Ok, need more information on drivers installed. Please download and run the Intel System Support Utility for Windows. When you start the utility, select Everything and then click on Scan. Once it completes the scan process, click on Next and then Save. Pick a name for the text file to create and click on Save to create it. You can then close the app. Finally, open a response post here and then, using the Drag and drop here or browse files to attach dialog (below the edit box for the body of your response post), upload and attach this text file to the response post.

Dear Scott,
Thank you very much, really appreciate your efforts. I wish I could research like you. I just wanted to ask you when I right click on my ethernet driver and click on scan for hardware changes, what happens and what command does it trigger.

That entry appears in the context menu for all device entries in Device Manager. It causes Device Manager to do a Plug'n'Pray search for new devices.

When you click on this selection, are you seeing something wrong?

When I lose my Ethernet connection, I right click on my ethernet driver, and then click on scan for hardware changes, it activates the lost network connection. So I wonder what exactly does this thing do-scan for hardware changes.

I have no details on what Microsoft is doing, but what you describe is the equivalent of the troubleshooter reactivating the device. You could probably script a recovery process to use when it disconnects, but, frankly, I don't see this as being worth the effort. Get yourself a cheap USB-based Ethernet card or stick with that Wireless card.

Hi.
I've the exactly same model. To prevent the "no-lan" problem from startup, i disabled the "fast startup" option from energy options, at control panel. The pc will start slower -obviously- but installed a new ssd only for windows use , so i hope this trick helps.
