About ucLinux porting

Hi all,

I need to port an ucLinux system to an Altera FPGA. I am a beginner of NIOS2, and I have some questions. I hope someone could help me.

1. How to choose FPGA.

I can see the total LEs cost in the Quartus. My question is that if a FPGA can supply enough LEs to the NIOS core and it is fast enough, is it needed to use a FPGA with more resource for ucLinux porting. In another word, whether ucLinux porting will cost LEs and how many LEs will it cost?

2. I find HAL's driver is nice to comprehend. But I don't know whether it is useful to learn HAL's driver, for finally I should port a ucLinux system. Can I use HAL driver directly under ucLinux system(I wanna to use Microtronix ucLinux system)?

3. I even have no idea how to learn the system porting for Altera FPGA. Could somebody give me some suggestions for good book/reference?

Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Your questions should be answered in the (old version of the) NIOS Wiki. http://www.nioswiki.com/
