I'm running the SOPC Builder for the standard design and it informs me that there is an update for the Nios II processor. I have 5.0 installed, and it says there is version 6.0 available. I can't locate the Nios II processor component 6.0 on the Altera web site under downloads. I only find development suites but I only want the component (I think). I tried searching but I must not have the right set of keywords. Any help is greatly appreciated!

--- Quote End --- I was hoping to only download only the Nios II v6.0 component and not the entire suite. Perhaps they cannot be separated. I'm running Quartus 5.0 and Nios IDE 5.0. If I download the "Evaluation Edition", will my existing license make it non-evaluation? Do I need version 6.0 of everything else? (Quartus, Programmer, etc.) Regards, Dave

Unfortunately, you cannot download the CPU component individually. Currently the CPU component and the software development tools are bundled together. Also, to install the Nios II v6.0 design suite you must first install Quartus II v6.0.
To your question about licensing: the "evaluation" edition CPU becomes a "full" edition if you have a valid license file. The only difference between "eval" and "full" is the lack of the MicroC/OS-II source code in the evaluation edition. If you're curious whether or not you should install the 6.0 release, you can find out all of the changes in the nios ii eds v6.0 release notes (http://www.altera.com/literature/rn/rn_nios2eds_60.pdf).- Mark as New

Thanks, Alan. Now about Quartus II v6.0. I only see the Web edition available for download. Can you point me to a URL for downloading non-Web v6.0?
