The first step is to download the driver package from here: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/opencl-drivers#latest_linux_driver

The SRB4 driver supports the GPU and CPU components of these processors:

  • Intel® 5th, 6th, or 7th generation Intel® Core™ processors
  • Intel® Celeron® Processor J3000 Series with Intel® HD Graphics 500 (J3455, J3355), Intel® Pentium® Processor J4000 Series with Intel® HD Graphics 505 (J4205), Intel® Celeron® Processor N3000 Series with Intel® HD Graphics 500 (N3350, N3450), Intel® Pentium Processor N4000 Series with Intel® HD Graphics 505 (N4200)
  • Intel® Xeon® processor v4 or v5 with Intel® Graphics Technology (if enabled by OEM in BIOS and motherboard)

Jeffrey, I'd like to understand if the latest version of Intel OpenCL software for Linux could work on a legacy Ivy Bridge systems with Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit. >>... >>...The SRB4 driver supports the GPU and CPU components of these processors: >> >> - Intel® 5th, 6th, or 7th generation Intel® Core™ processors >>... Does it mean that in case of a 3rd Generation Intel Core processor ( Ivy Bridge ) before installing the latest version of Intel OpenCL software for Linux a driver from Intel Media Server Studio 2015 R1 ( 16.3 ) needs to be installed?

Jeffrey, Intel Parallel Studio XE Cluster Edition for Linux ( Update 2 ) has a package with Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Linux: ... Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Linux Version 1.0 ( 16.4.4-47109 ) ... My questions are: - Could these drivers be used with Intel OpenCL software? - It gets confusing since it is Not clear if these drivers are the same, or compatible, with SRB4 driver package?

These drivers are distributed for the Gen compiler in parallel studio and may not be complete for OpenCL.  They are related to Media Server Studio community edition.  The version 16.4.x indicates the 16.4 branch.

More info here: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/driver-support-matrix-for-media-sdk-and-opencl.

For OpenCL/Media SDK development the Media Server Studio packages are good options for the previous HW generations mentioned in the article. Beignet could also be a good option for Ivybridge.

I will try NVIDIA OpenCL SDKs for Windows and Linux. NVIDIA has a very good policy regarding legacy software and it keeps these packages in Archives available for downloads.
