Hello,
I'm wondering about the ECC-RAM support of the 7th generation Core i3 CPUs. Intel ARK currently says, that they in general (e.g. the 7100 and 7300) support ECC-RAM, but cpu comparisons and forum threads from a few months ago say otherwise:

My question is whether there is a new revision of the Core i3 CPUs that actually support ECC-RAM and the older revision doesn't or is the confusion based on erroneous information in Intel ARK a few months ago and all i3 7100/7300 support ECC-RAM?
Regards,
Ben

Hello benurb,
Thank you for joining the Processors Community.
Based on the results found in ark.intel.com, these two processors support ECC memory https://ark.intel.com/compare/97458,97455 Intel® Product Specification Comparison. I am unable to comment regarding those links since that is not information from our end, but you can check the family datahseet in order to confirm the specific module configuration for the ECC memory: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/7th-gen-core-family-desktop-s-processor-lines-datasheet-vol-1.html Datasheet, Vol. 1: 7th Gen Intel® Processor Family for S Platforms

That's all fine and dandy, but only answers half of the question...
In order for you to actually use ECC Memory with this processor, this processor must be mounted on a board that is designed to support ECC memory (ECC DIMMs) and the board's BIOS must contain a version of the MRC containing support for ECC Memory. Unless all of these factors come together, the solution simply isn't going to work.
Hope this helps,
