I9 9900k unstable mhz issues. Help please

for overclocking my i9 9900k on the maximus xi extreme but something is wrong.

The mhz is not stable at all

I need help guys. I am not sure what is going on with my brand new i9 9900k.

The overclock is to 5100 mhz but why the numbers are not stable to 5100 mhz but they go down to 800 mhz?

Is there a problem with my cpu?

I noticed that you linked to the Intel Performance Tuning Plan website and recommended the purchase for this customer's i9-9900K.

Did you happen to notice that Intel hasn't added the option to buy this plan for the CPU in question? I also notice that the i7-8086K was never added.

This chip does not need an overclock. Your motherboard is an Asus z390 type? I have heard rumors that the Asus z390 VRM's aren't quite up to par for a 5 ghz+ chip. To overclock the 9900k, you need exceptionally good VRM's (Voltage Regulator Modules) to attain overclocked chip stability. I did my research and bought a Gigabyte z390 in case in the future (after warranty expires) I want to experiment with overclocking. This chip is already at a very high ghz stock. Don't worry. This chip does not need an overclock. If you do, you will need a serious cooling solution and an exceptional power supply or you won't get anywhere because the chip will only throttle down its ghz to avoid melting. This chip can pull close to 300 watts on its own. The Nvidia RTX 2080 ti is at 279W full load. The 9900k can pull 180 - 200 watts at 5 ghz full load on all 16 threads according to my system diagnostics. Mainstream CPU's don't usually take more juice than graphics cards. Higher Ghz means more juice needed per time-step (with chip of same nano-meter sized architecture). Good VRM's are needed to regulate higher voltages into this already power hungry chip.
