Hello everyone,
I am encountering a recurring issue on my Alienware M16 R1 where an IPF error (Event ID 17) is logged in the Windows Event Viewer. This error appears when shutting down the system, during abrupt power-offs while playing video games, or when running resource-intensive applications like video editing software.
Event Viewer General tab:
ESIF(1.0.11904.2707) TYPE: ERROR MODULE: IPF TIME 43982 ms[<IPFSRV>AuthMgr_EsifEventRegister@ipfsrv_authmgr.c#2003]<43982 ms>: Unauthorized EsifEventRegister: NA (-1) [3649940C-B779-464D-87D3-45EB8F243A3A]
To address the issue, I have undertaken the following troubleshooting steps:
Complete System Reinstallation: I performed a full clean reinstall of the operating system to rule out software corruption.
Driver Updates: I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Dell’s support website specifically for my model.
BIOS Update: I ensured that the BIOS is updated to the most recent version available.
System File Integrity Checks: I ran SFC (System File Checker) using sfc /scannow and DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) commands to repair any corrupted system files.
In Device Manager, the Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning Technology Updater Component is flagged with a warning symbol, indicating that Windows cannot detect a driver for it, even though the driver has already been installed.
Additionally, Dell Support Assistant does not detect any issues or offer any relevant updates
Despite these extensive measures, the error persists. I would appreciate any further guidance or suggestions to resolve this problem.

Hi Milosu,
It seems that you've exhausted all troubleshooting options. Could we try loading the default settings in the BIOS, then restart the system to see if it has any effect on the issues you're experiencing? Additionally, have you already contacted the Dell support team regarding this concern? If so, could you share their insights and recommendations on this matter?
IPF error with Event ID 17 is related to the Intel Innovation Platform Framework (IPF) or Intel Speed Shift Technology (SST). This error typically appears in the Event Viewer and can be caused by outdated or corrupted Intel drivers. On the other hand, the error message you’re seeing, “ID 17ESIF(1.0.11904.2707) TYPE: ERROR MODULE: IPF,” indicates an issue with the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF). If updating the drivers doesn’t resolve the issue, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the DPTF drivers. This can help reset any corrupted configurations, please visit the support page for your PC on the Dell website. From there, download and re-install (not update) the version of Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework provided for your specific model.
Regarding Intel® Dynamic Tuning Technology (Intel® DTT), please note that this is a component of Intel Adaptix™ Technology. It consists of system software drivers that are configured by the system manufacturer (OEM) to dynamically optimize system performance, battery life, and thermal management. DTT utilizes advanced AI and ML-based algorithms for these optimizations. It is specifically tailored by OEMs for their systems, and is not designed for end-user modification, as changing manufacturer settings may pose risks to system operation. The specific features and configurations of DTT are determined by the OEMs.
