Intel 13600k with MSI Z690-A PRO WIFI with DDR5 Windows 11 can't undervolt

Hi guys,

 

I used to have an Intel 12600K with MSI Z690-A PRO WIFI with DDR5 and undervolting worked great from windows with the help of Intel XTU but once I upgraded to 13600k can't undervolt anymore.

 

I'm using windows 11 with latest updates and drivers, latest bios on MB.

 

If I set the offset from bios -0.100v  when I get back to bios I see the difference but if I load windows it ignores the undervolt completly... if I try to overvolt +0.50v that works...

 

Any ideas on what might be the issue here?

In reference to this scenario, it is important to mention that altering clock frequency or voltage may damage or reduce the useful life of the processor and other system components, and may reduce system stability and performance. Product warranties may not apply if the processor is operated beyond its specifications. Check with the manufacturers of system and components for additional details.

Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the Intel® XTU application?

In the following link you will find the "Common Issues and Resolutions for Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility" with some troubleshooting steps that might be useuful for you:

Additionally, since the Intel® XTU is directly related to the BIOS, we also recommended to get in contact directly with MSI Support to make sure the latest BIOS version is currently installed in the board or to gather the instructions on how to update it:

Once you get the chance, please let us know the results. If the problem persists, please attach the SSU report so we can verify further details about the components in your platform, check all the options in the report including the one that says "3rd party software logs":

Hi Albert.

 

Thanks for your reply, I have tried to re-install XTU but the same thing happens, it ignores any undervolt I try to apply but it does apply overvoltage if it try.

 

... so an offset of -0.050v is ignored but one of +0.050v gets applied.

 

this only happens in windows, at the bios level offsets get applied correctly  but once windows loads.... it starts ignoring the negative offset again.

 

also any frequency modification gets applied correctly, the only thing that does not is undervolting.

 

it's not a MSI issue since the bios applied any offset correctly, something happens after windows gets loaded that ignores my negative offsets.

While we are still working on this case, we just wanted to check if you could please provide pictures or screenshots from Intel® XTU about this scenario so we can have a better understanding of the options you are currently seeing on the tool?

I have attatched 3 screenshots with XTU as you asked.

First are default values, they work normal.
2nd are undervolt values... they are ignored and work with default.
3rd are overvolt values... they worked but who needs overvolting..

 

Any Mhz overclock or underclock I try works fine... the only issue is undervolting.

And also if I undervolt from bios and reset computer then go back to bios... bios aplies undervolt but as soon as I load windows it ignores undervolt values and snaps back to stock voltage values.

I have my CPU Lite Load  set at Mode 3 .. not had any problems

We completely understand your decision of going back to using the Intel® 12600K processor.


Still, just to let you know, we are currently working on this scenario, and we recommend:

-To check if undervolt protection is unabled on BIOS.

-To get in contact directly with MSI Support to make sure the latest BIOS version is currently installed:
