Intel SA-00115 microcode patch 0200004D bring Core i9 7980XE TJ Max from 105 to 110 degrees celcius

l had check Core i9 7980XE TJ Max increse from 105 degree Celsius to 110 from "0200004D" microcode which was

Intel officially guidance June 22,2018 here.

Checking many time by

1. Intel Processor Diagnostics Tools 4.1.0.27

2. AIDA64 5.97.4600

Not only TJ MAX increased Idle state also 5 degree Celsius increases , too.

Would you please inform me to solve?

Other microcode 0200002B,3A,35,39,43,49 for Skylake X SKUs TJ Max was 105 degree Celsius.

Idle state also 5 degree Celcius below 0200004D.

My Spec : 7980XE RAMPAGE 6 Extreme

In order to assist you better, can you please provide us the link that you used in order to download the patch? Was it from an Intel ® Web page?

ASUS RAMPAGE VI EXTREME BIOS 1401 which lastest version provide by ASUS use 02000043 microcode inside.

When tested with Intel Processor Diagnostic Tools 4.1.0.27 and AIDA 64 5.97.4600 (In section CPUID)

Both report Tj Max of Core i9 7980XE was " 105 " degree celcius

Under Microsoft Windows Insider Preview Build 17711.1000 (Lastest Build) deployed 02000049 microcode.

When tested with Intel Processor Diagnostic Tools 4.1.0.27 and AIDA 64 5.97.4600 (In section CPUID)

Both report Tj Max of Core i9 7980XE was " 105 " degree celcius

However when I'd using "0200004D" microcode same default setting with upper.

When tested with Intel Processor Diagnostic Tools 4.1.0.27 and AIDA 64 5.97.4600 (In section CPUID)

Both report Tj Max of Core i9 7980XE was " 110 " degree celcius

I don't think the CPU can working @ those Tj Max reported.

Would you please checking this processor with 0200004D microcode Tj Max report both Intel Processor Diagnostic Tools 4.1.0.27

and AIDA 64 5.97.4600 (In section CPUID)

Here is my latest BIOS with deployed " 0200004D " Microcode from those source.

Default value from ASUS " F5 Load Optimized Default " Maximum CPU Core Temperature set as " AUTO"

When we use Intel Diagnostic Tools 4.1.0.27 64-bit and AIDA 64 5.97.4600 testing. Both report " CPU Tj MAX " rising to 110 degree celcius (105 was default from Intel datasheet)

I'd trying to test "0200002B" , "0200003A",...," 02000049 " with Microsoft used for their recently build of Windows Insider Preview 17711.1000.

All report as " 105 " degree celcius as Tj Max same setting above. Look like only " 0200004D " only displayed " 110 " degree celcius as Tj Max.

Can't believe CPU working at those point.

And when checking default idle state temp of this CPU also rising around " 5 " degree celcius too.

In this case the microcode that you downloaded from our page is for Linux* Systems.

The one that corresponds to your system is provided by your system manufacturer, Asus* in this case.

You can find it in the following link under the BIOS section:

Please go ahead and download it from there as they optimized the microcode to be fully available and compatible for your system.

Thank you for your kindness advise Diego.S @ Intel

However ASUS BIOS use older 02000043 microcode which out of date for SA-00115 issue.

So, I decided to translate those microcode to modded ASUS 1401 BIOS as above manually.

If there are nothing with 0200004D microcode issue for idle and Tj Max temp. It's OK.

I'll waiting for next ASUS BIOS version and rechecking this again.
