Hello all !
So i have bought this config :
Intel i5 6600k
MSI Z170A Gaming M3
Corsair DDR 4 16 GB 2400 MHZ
I am experiencing random freezes. The screen locks up and the sound is stuck. So annoying. Can anyone help me with this problem ?
Most of the time happens during Youtube video playback. But it can randomly happen with listening to music with the WMP.
Im using :
Windows 10 Home - latest update 1151 Threshold 2 - with ALL DRIVERS UPDATED. Even installed the latest Beta driver of the Intel HD530 that came out Nov 21. Stock bios settings. STILL randomly freezing.
Thank you in advance,
James

Hi Jameshatchin,
It is necessary to narrow down the issue, please verify on your motherboard BIOS if RAM is running at 2400MHz or 2133MHz. The memory controller inside the Intel® Core™ i5-6600K supports DDR4 1866 and 2133MHz at 1.25v or less. Memories at higher speed overclock the processor and performance decreases.
The processor base frequency is 3.5 GHz for the 4 Cores.

Hello,
I have checked. The memory is running on its Stock settings. So :
2133 MHZ with 1.2 v.
I have even run an Aida 64 Extreme STRESS/STABILITY TEST for 1 hour and it remained perfectly stable. Temps : Motherboard : 36 c and CPU was a maximum 53 c. BUT ...
After this run i have started up a super old game. Half life 1 !!!! Yes Half life 1 ! and it locked up after 15 mins ... The next day it locked up again but this time while browsing the internet ...
Everything is running on Stock settings. Nothing is modified. Nothing is set to a different state.

I mostly got these error reports. Just repeating these over and over again (30-40 errors abour igfxHK.exe in about 3 days) . Tried all of the HD 530 drivers and none of them work "properly". Tried all BIOS versions of my Motherboard and none of them are working.
BUT !!! I didnt get a lockup since 1 full day. I have disabled EIST and Intel Turbo boost + turbo boost for all cpu cores (Only disabled INTEL features and not MSI). It seems to be stable now but I have bought this CPU for performance. Not for power saving. :/

Hi Jameshatchin,
Thank you for your reply. As you see in test the processor was over clocked. That's why the system is freezing. Now Intel® Turbo Boost Technology belongs to Intel® and the Turbo Boost option in the BIOS belongs to your motherboard manufacturer; It allows you to over clock the processor.
The chart below, shows the maximum speed per Core with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology depending on number of Cores working at the same time.

I see now. I didnt manually overclock it. Its on Stock BIOS settings. Hmm. What should i do ?
I want to have it overclocked somehow because otherwise i would have just stayed with my Intel i5 2500K. Without the overclock It barely surpasses my old CPU.

Hi Jameshatchin,
The i5-6600K is ready prepared to recognize memories with higher speed DDR4 2133 vs DDR3 1333MHz. Also, it supports dedicated graphics cards with the latest technology PCIe 3.0 and it has better graphics Intel® HD Graphics 530.
It is possible to compare both processors at

Are You sure that "Detected CPU Frequency" in Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool is correct?
On my 6600k it shows 5.2Ghz in test resutls, but cpu is on default settings, also Extreme Tuning Utility and CPUID shows that it runs at 3.9Ghz throughout the entire tests.
By the way I suffer on this "random hard freezes" issue aswell.

Hi CwaniAK,
If CPUID shows the processor at 3.9GHz, it means the motherboard settings are over clocking the processor, the base frequency is 3.5GHz.

But wasn't that suppose to happen with turbo boost on? Multiplier jumping from base 35 to 39?
The second problem is Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool frequency detection - looks like it multiplies wrong bus speed - 133Mhz instead of 100Mhz. That would explain why i got 5.2Ghz (39*133), but also means that Jameshatchins processor was not overcloked ( 4 564.5 / 133 < 35)
Is that a corect value - that supoose to be? Or maybe it's a bug in PDT, or perhaps it's some other problem (with motherboard increasing bus speed or something)?

Hello everyone and especially INTEL. I have time to read all the articles that reported faults with Skylake, and wanted to add my two cents about my experience and hope to help.
First my team:
64bit Windows 10 PRO UEFI
Asus Maximus HeroVIII
Intel i5 6600K
GSkill DDR4 3,200 Mhz
GTX970
I've been with them since November, Everything has been done before microcode update the BIOS.
My test is based on regular income such as by running games in Ultra all graphics options, not synthetic such as Prime95 test, since there are many doubts if it affects normal daily basis.
I have to say that I have tried several games last generation, and those who make out the herror freezing with less time are especially TRINE 3 and the Assassins Creed Sindicate, everything becomes totally unstable, in the first case timed 35 minutes, and in the second case timed at 70 minutes, until I go to the desktop, and everything returns to normal; impossible to run again because they keep coming errors freezing in image and sound, so it is not just a failure of synthetic test, to play them I have two months restarting Windows every time freezes and so we would say the timer is set to zero and I can follow.
I've done all components RMA getting a little more new models, and follows the same effect freezing.
I changed to Windows 8.1, and the effect is still the same.
I have switched to Windows 7 and my surprise is that, here if everything has become stable and there is no freezing or anything, any game or suffers aplicaion Skylake instability, or at least my i5 6600K preset.
So, is it because of the interaction of Skylake with Windows?
Because the errors are still happening to me after the microcode update BIOS, in part, I mean, follow the same flaws in operating systems with the same applications, but with the difference that it has increased the time margin of error in some 7-10 minutes, though, and big difference is that in other games with a workload too high but stable at 60 Frames, there is no failure and can run with Windows 10 normally, "without time limit failure".
The only reason I'm in Windows 10 is because I hope that these errors are resolved since this operating system I like more, despite failures.
I hope my English is understood by Google.
PD. I have also have tried disabling the XMP profile of RAM, leaving them to 2133 MHz and 3.5 GHz processor, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, 8, and freezing and failure results were the same.
In Windows 7, this was not necessary, as it was completely stable.

It seems that the problem is slowly disappearing, and now my PC worked without interruption, after the upgrade to Windows 10 before yesterday Nvidia, is not whether they will be to blame for this, but with the latest generation game , The Division, has worked like a charm, the games that I have problematic, the truth I have not tried, if someone can confirm ...
It seems that light at the end of the tunnel ...

Hi HeroVIII,
There is a beta graphics driver; it improves gaming performance. It might help you; however, I recommend you to run the processor at 3.5 GHz.

mickey intel, not the problem in this overclock, not temperature. I appreciate your advice, but do not have to follow giving me tips to spare mechanical adjustments because we know that it is not. Intel drivers can not be installed if it has a dedicated graphics card. We need a serious answer and studied for our teams because we would be so digress for nothing and wasting valuable time. Hopefully soon you bear a solution to the millions of users, and can be made public in the press.
Thank you.
Cheers

False alarm, the problem of frozen image exists despite the updates and work with the latest games, I've relocated the games had as test and still freezing the game or so.
We hope that Intel is working with Microsoft and assemblers of motherboards and solve the problem.
With applications which ye have problems you as it happens?

Hi All,
Please review the second post of this thread. Intel® Turbo Boost Technology increases processor speed depending of system conditions. Only 1 Core will run at maximum speed, the rest will run slower.
From http://ark.intel.com/ ARK | Your Source for Intel® Product Specifications you can review the specs of the fully compatible memory with each processor.

Hello mikec_intel if the tables had seen, do you want me to say is that the basis of the bale manufacturer should optimize it or updates through the fault of Intel Turbo Boost?
As I mentioned in my previous post I have tried disabling also have the XMP profile of RAM, leaving them to 2133 MHz and 3.5 GHz processor, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, 8, and freezing and failure Were the same results.
In Windows 7, This was not necessary, as it was completely stable.
In my Asus Maximus VIII Hero , there is a utility within the AI Suite that I can see in real time the percentage of utilization of CPU cores, and the processor at 3.5 or 3.9 Ghz work all at once with a similar load.
The question is: why in Windows 7, everything works great with the processor and SO others not?
