I am currently configuring a new Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 16’’ laptop and I have 3 processor options:
- i5 1340P
- i5 13420H (+ €10)
- i7 13620H (+ €150)
My initial choice went to the i7 because it has the best performance, but I am concerned about the battery life of the laptop. My build has:
- 75.4 Wh battery
- 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600) display
- 16 GB LPDDR5 5200MHz
- integrated graphics
Alternatively, I could go for a €90 cheaper 16" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display to save battery life.
I have read a comment online of a person with a similar build (but a 1080p display) that mentioned that they could not get a longer battery life than 5-6h, even while performing minimal tasks. This has me doubting my initial choice, because I am not a gamer, so an i7 H-series might be overkill for me and I’m better off with the i5 P-series for a longer battery life (and €150 savings). On the other hand, I like to use photoshop moderately and I expect to do quite some multi-tasking for general tasks (browsing, Excel, movies, …) with multiple monitors. I expect the laptop to mainly be used inside the house, but it would be nice to not constantly have to be worried about charging the laptop.
So my question really comes down to 2 parts;
1. How significant is the performance difference between the mentioned processors?
2. How significant is the extra battery life that I can expect if I go for the i5 1340P instead of the i7 13620H? (And will there be a large difference in terms of battery degradation over time?)
I’m aware that these depend on many factors, but I’m just looking for any advice regarding the processor choice that takes my usage profile into account (non-gamer, but multi-tasker).
Thanks a lot!

Hello MKemp,
Thank you for posting on the Intel
Between the three processors, there is not a big difference, but the one that has better performance is the Intel® Core™ i7-13620H Processor, which has the fastest frequency, and the one with more threads to handle more tasks at the same time.
The three processors are very good for Photoshop and for multitasking, you should not have issues related to processor performance. If you want to know more information about the processor specifications you can access ark.intel.com.
For battery life questions, I recommend you to contact the laptop manufacturer, as you mentioned it depends on many factors, but they are the ones that can provide you with information.
Let me know if you have further questions
