I have a desktop which I have had almost 3 years with a C2D E6600 2.4GHz processor. I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 home, and immediately checked the Windows Experience index, for which my processor returned 4.8
Yesterday I acquired a new laptop, with a C2D P7570 2.26GHz processor with Windows 7 Professional, and got a processor score of 5.9.
Now I don't understand the technical details of processors to any degree, yet comparing the spec of each, they appear very similar on paper, so why would the E6600 give me such a low score compared to the P7570?

The P7570 is 45 nm but even so can't think that would be it.
Run SiSoftware Sandra to compare your E6600 with whats listed and get some real numbers.

I couldn't remember why I didn't have Sisoft Sandra installed on my PC, and after downloading it and trying out a benchmark, it crashed my PC. Now it's deleted again.
